Man, am I getting sour in my old age or what?  It's just that I don't understand why we have so many posts of "GREAT SHOTS" in the Photography Group when they should be posted in the GREAT SHOTS group.  Great shots in the photography group would be just fine if those who posted them would post EXIF data and information on how they took the picture so the rest of us could improve our PHOTOGRAPHY.  Most of us have no problem identifying a great shot, nor do we have a problem admiring said great shots.  I thank all of you who have posted for the eye candy.  They look great, but I want to get as good as you.  Please help!

Do a lot of people post their "Wordless Wednesday" pics in the Great Shots group? If so, maybe the group should establish some guidelines. Maybe one could  only post a picture if they explained what kind of cameraused, time of day and so on, so we could learn how to get a shot like the one in the picture as well. IDK, just a thought!

BTW Lee ~ I do like "Wordless Wednesday"....some of the titles are really funny when accompanied by the right photo!!

Have a wonderful day!

Lee - I agree. This is the first week I was guilty of such a crime...and now that you called us all out for it, I am hanging my head in shame. I kept posting (not even blogging) to the "Wordless Wednesday" group, but I had several people tell me they were disappointed that they never saw my photo for the week or that they could not subscribe to it...

I will straighten up and fly right. I agree that they really do water down the photography group too much, and we have to go back 50 posts to find anything of value!

Okay, so I guess I'm confused. I don't post many "wordless" photos often ... but isn't Great Shots the place for those? If not, where are all fo these fun photo shots supposed to go?

Gay, you aren't confused (unless I'm confused with you).  Great Shots is the perfect place to put pretty pictures.  It's just that many people post these "pretty pictures" in the photography group which is designed for photography...okay, I'm confused again.  No, really the photography group is for those interested in photography.  Posts in the photography group should be about photography...you know, topics about helping all of us become better photographers, equipment and techniques, not just pretty pictures.

FYI- I contacted the moderator for this group sometime ago about posting WW & SS photos in the Photography Group, and was told she welcomed them here. If that has changed, then, by all means, do let us know.

I'm sorry you find our 'Wordless Wednesday' photos 'worthless', as described in your title, but judging by the amount of folks who post and comment on those posts, many would disagree with you.

5 of your last 6 blog posts have been to complain.

Maybe it's time to start your very own group, with explicit guidlines excluding those that annoy you.

Then you might find something else to blog about. :)

Debi - You're right!  Actually, Lee could go into the group member list, if he is actually now the moderator of the Photography group, and change the option to "private"  while clicking off the "allow posting" boxes to existing members he doesn't like or is annoyed with.

Debi, Worthless Wednesday was a play on words, not an indication that I didn't like the photos.

Myrl, I don't dislike anyone and I'm only annoyed with the fact that I can't find blogs on Photography on the photography group.  The problem with banning anyone is that both you and Debi have made very good contributions to the photography group.  I wouldn't want to preclude you from doing that in the future.

Lee - perhaps the best way to learn about photography is by joining a photography club ... while many of us take pictures some good some not so good we use cameras that do it all for us. For some of us we know how to point and shoot and little else matters as long as the pictures turn out great. All I know is if I twist this and push that I usually get nice clear crisp shots. ... perhaps after I have been a member of a photography club for a while I might know a Little bit more and be able to offer information about my photos.

I posted the response below here as well:

I see you posted this blog to the photography group...Why?

Lee,

Your above comment would have been in much better taste than making a cryptic and cynical comment to the posts of 8 Active Rain members. Making yourself aware that a previous moderator (Maureen Henry) had explicitly allowed it, would have been a good call as well, and acknowledging that would have gone a long way in goodwill. Further, your (4) blog posts referencing "Worthless Wednesday", while expressing your opinion very clearly, which you have every right to do, could be construed by the many who post there as insulting. Again, there are many of us in this community who very much enjoy it.

Because of (in my opinon) your poor taste and bad judgment, I have left the Photography group, and when I post tutorials, I will post them elsewhere.

Your choice is acceptable, your method was not.

Debi

Worthless Wednesday

Who of us that actively participates in Wordless Wednesday, would not find these comments offensive?

Kathy, as I responded to your question on the other blog, I did join a club, it was the Photography group on ActiveRain.  The group no longer wishes to help its members become better photographers.  That's a shame because if it did, you might be able to find out which dohicky to twist or what settings provide the best results under certain conditions.

Debi, I was not being cryptic (what I wrote is what I meant) but I have to plead "guilty" on being cynical (that I am).  No one should feel insulted.  I made no judgments.  I only asked a question.  It's amazing how many feathers one can ruffle by asking a question in hopes of gathering some information.

Lee - sometimes we miss the point ... I was referring to a live club one you attend and where you also go on field trips with like minded people and mentors who will help you learn in person. ... not being a photographer and wanting to learn more that is what I did.

Kathy, I've calmed down now.  ActiveRain was the best I had.  As far as I know, there is not a photography club in my area.  I do know a lot of photographers now and we talk often.  I've also found other places on the internet for the type of help I need.  My intentions are to provide those tips and tutorials I referenced back onto the photography group.  Even if no one else wishes to contribute, members of this group will get some help.

Lee - I've learned over the years that it is better to look for alternatives rather than cause confrontation ... sometimes we are better off to let it pass but not always ... but then that is another story and one that I will have trouble with no matter what I do

Confrontation was not my goal.  I originally was just asking why the photography group had other than photography subjects.  My feeling at the time was that if I understood why, we might be able to find a way to get photography subjects back onto the photography group making it easier for those looking for photography subjects to find them.  I see now how my "question" appeared confrontational.  My goal now is to re-introduce photography blogs into the photography group thereby providing content for those looking for photography subjects.  I'm hoping that doing so will inspire others to provide content themselves for the group.  We have a lot of talent here on ActiveRain.  I'm sure some of us would love to share what we know thereby helping the rest of us become better photographers.
