The picture was taken on Ski Run Road, in Red Lodge Montana on October 12, 2009.  Isn't he cute?

Beautiful deer Gerry, but we are not looking forward to that white stuff coming our way.

Great picture. The green shows spring or summer, but the snow says it couldn't wait!

Hi Gerry ~ That's just magical.  I love the way the photo is filled with the leaves with the deer in the one clear spot - it is just beautiful.

so cute Gerry, most of our snow has melted - I see you still have some.  I think  they stand out so much better with the white background. Very beautiful with all the trees for a frame!

Oh good, I finally get my 15 minutes of fame on Gerry's Red Lodge blog.  The moose usually get all the attention.  Do I get my own deer group, eh? (I have friends in Canada, you know.)

Al and Peggy,

You got to admit that white stuff is much prettier when you have some nice subjects willing to pose with it.  As long as it is not accompanied with cold temperatures, it is nice.

Lora,

We got it a little bit early.   Most residents will agree with me.  Luckily, most of it has melted and we are enjoining Fall again.

Yvette and Denis,

Thank you.  One of the good things about the snow, is that you can spot the deer better on the road.

Lee and Carol,

Thanks.  He looked like a friendly deer but I was happy to stay put and to photograph him from the car.  He knew what I was up to and he was happy to pose for a few photos.

Donna,

Thanks.  We are going back towards green and back to Fall.  At higher altitudes, we are used to get quick variations of temperature from one day to another.

Liz,

Thank you for the great description.  I managed to get this effect by backing up the car (no cars to be seen for miles on that morning) and calling the deer to look towards me.

Thom,

Thank you.   It looks like the snow will only stay for another day at most.  It has started to melt.  Not everyone is used to snow and I was also glad when it snowed little or did not snow in Atlanta.  When I lived there, I remember being worried with how some drove on the highway after it snowed.

Mary,

Thank you.  Most of our snow will have melted by the end of today.   I agree that the deer stand out with the white background.   You can spot them much sooner on the road which is great since they do seem to like to cross the roads often around here.  I did take pleasure in framing this one with all the trees around him.  I am sure you agree that it gives the viewer a better perspective of his size and beauty.

Debra,

I am starting to wonder why this one is getting more comments than the moose in my previous post.  Unlike the moose, this one was very easy to photograph and I left him instead of him leaving me.

Dear Marc,

I am sure you got plenty of friends up North.  I will let you start the deer group-eh.    I am quite surprised that this deer caught more of the members' attention than the moose here on AR.   It will be interesting to see how much attention a photo showing both a moose and deer will generate.

Paul,

I loved it so far even though I had to get the wheels of my cars changed a little earlier than anticipated.  But, if we get more snow than normal for this time of the year, I am likely to change my mind.  Thank you my friend in Washington State.

I really like how the foliage seems to have opened up to put focus on this little guy.  I love this shot!

Gerry,

You might want to come visit Tucson.  Our deer enjoy sunshine without snow this time of year.

Jim and Maria,

Thank you. I am glad this little guy posed for me and stood there without any fear.  This allowed me to move and get this great angle.  I am also glad that Mother Nature provided me with a great background.  A little white (most of the snow has melted since) sure enhanced the focus on this little guy.

Myrl,

There are so many wonderful things going on as well as unexpected animal appearances in my neck of the woods that I am having a hard time keeping up with photographing and posting them on AR.  Thank you for visiting and for your kind words.

Lee,

Thanks for making it clear.   I was wondering how to respond to your first comment.  I appreciate the pleasant surprise.  I will make sure I post my next photo in the Great Shots group although that is pretty subjective and I like to let the members to decide when I post a photo whether it is just Photography or a Great Shot as well.  :)

Gerry, I can't take the heat.  Please go back to posting to the photography group as you wish.  I'm sorry for making anything of it.  I was truly trying to help and I even tried to do it in the nicest way I knew to.

Lee,

No need to worry.  I usually select to post to the maximum 5 groups allowed hoping to maximum exposure but I now realized what the "Photography: group is about.  It must not be easy to be a moderator for such an active group and after visiting your blog and reading your recent posts, I do understand what has happened.  Funny you mentioned heat, the snow has all melted here in Red Lodge!   :)
