Don't click the link if you get it.  I might have been a victim of this one.  Yesterday I reloaded MS Outlook 2007 for my Microsoft Hosted Exchange account.

And this morning I booted up to find the message:

A new settings file for the support@yourdomain.com mailbox.  Hmmmm.  What have I done?

But then there was:  A new settings file for the alert@mydomain.com has just been released

And there were myriad others.  I see a total of 8 variations on the theme.  That was the giveaway.

Since I had just reloaded Outlook, I may have been sucked in by one.  But I Googled one of the lines, and came up with this site, which coolly claims, "An acquired tasted for viruses and spam."  They tell me it is a link to a Trojan virus that will invade your machine!

I tried to vet the message via http://spamdb.com/, and it appears that they are taking a break.

Surf safely!

Missy,

I am so careful on this stuff, and feel like I came so close to stepping in it.

If it helps just one person....

It never ends, SarahGray...

Outlook was easy, since I am using a webhost for email.  I erased and reloaded, and all the settings and configurations were there for me.  It took minutes.

The hurdle was realizing that reloading was what I needed to do.

I got a couple of those emails, but didn't click. Gmail labeled them spam.

Pam,

My pleasure!

Prest,

I pulled them out of the spam folder, too.

Mike, here's my problem...I didn't really understand much of anything you said because I'm so naive about all this stuff. So, I guess I'm just plain lucky that my machine hasn't been invaded, well, maybe that plus the fact that I have a super secret weapon (named Matt) who keeps my computer in tip top shape! Thanks for making us all aware of the threat!
