Windows v/s MAC...

We all have all seen the MAC commercials on TV. If you haven't you have been living under a rock somewhere east of Albuquerque. One thing that I have not been able to get my puny mind around is the price of the new Windows 7 OS.

I recently purchased a multi-user license for MAC Snow Leopard. It cost me $49. I can install the new OS on up to 5 PC's. Furthermore, this OS is compatible on machines that run the older Leopard or Tiger OS. Windows 7 will start at around $120 for the upgrade, and from $200 - $325 for the full version. And this is for a single license. If you have multiple machines, dig deep.

Windows 7 is not backward compatible for all machines. From many of the tech articles that I have read, Microsoft's new OS might be the solution for those beleaguered souls who still struggle with Vista. However, those of us who stayed with the tried and true XP may experience problems especially if the machine is an older model.

Given a choice, I will stay where I am. I just finished installing Snow Leopard on one computer, and when I upgrade my laptops to a larger hard drive, I will be running the new OS on those as well. As for my Microsoft based machines, I will stay with the good ole tried and true XP. Microsoft seems to have a habit of problems with their OS until somewhere around Service Pack 2. Until then, I will stay with my MAC's.   As usual, this is my 2¢'s worth for the day ☺☺☺

Mike,

Apple has always had inexpensive operating system upgrades. Makes no sense when you see what MS gets for theirs.

I'm so with you on this one Michael.

When I had my Mac laptop, life was good.

Then I had to switch over to a PC (my MLS and many of my graphics programs don't run on the MAC OS) and

things got out of control.

Trying to run Windows programs on a Windows based machine and having compatability issues can make you want to scream!

I long for the day when I buy a MAC, haha. I've heard the same conversation several times of people still using XP. I have no issues at all with Vista (It came with my corporate laptop).

I have had more tech problems the last year than any other year and it is a big pain in the butt!  SOmetimes it is nicer just to stay put and not have issues!

Michael, I agree with you on this one. I'm sticking with XP until Microsoft stop supporting it. Why ruin a good thing.

Michael,

I guess I am lucky. I bought a laptop a month back, comes with a free windows upgrade. I even did my paperwork.

Michael, they certainly try to get you, even after you bought the computer. It costs quite a bit to upgrade some applications.

Michael, The battle lines are drawn in our household. My son's company requires the use of Windows and he has a 2 year old Mac. He tried using the windows function and loaded a windows xp professional version from his old lap-top. The company computer and IT people say it just won't work. That's the only negative we have found...

Michael we have two with Vista and two with XP. I must say I've gotten use to Vista but it took me awhile. I plan on staying put, not about to make a change; I'll wait until they crater.

Michael, I get frustrated with Vista.  For some reason my cell phone will no longer link with my computer.  The blue tooth was working but now it says it is not compatible because of the Vista.  It is very frustrating.

Michael - I can't wait to say bye to Vista! Eventhough it has not given me much problems. And I too one of these days will get a MAC - I know it's coming... ~Rita

Michael,

Great post! I too have both MAC's and PC's. I could never get into Vista, I'm a fan of good ol' XP. Recently I purchased a new PC and had to go with Toshiba because they were the only company I could find that let me choose XP instead of Vista- which I thought was strange. But it has turned out to be a great computer so I can't complain. Interesting the cost difference of Snow Leopard vs. Windows 7. I also just purchased the Snow Leopard upgrade, and think it's great.
