The biggest obstacle to success is FEAR.

Why are so many real estate agents failing to live up to their potential?    It's not their lack the skills, or knowledge.   It's not that they don't want to succeed and create a better life for themselves and their loved ones.

I've given this matter a lot of thought.  As I see it, many Realtors are failing because they FEAR CHANGE.    There's something inside them that holds them back, preventing them from finding a new direction.....and so they opt for the status-quo.    In doing so they remain stuck in a holding pattern...never moving forward and seizing the opportunities that await them.

FEAR OF CHANGE is a major obstacle.

- What if I GO BROKE after making changes to my routine, or way of doing business?  At least I know what I've got now.

- I'd like to change, but I just don't have the time right now.   Perhaps tomorrow?   (Tomorrow never comes.)

- I'm not sure how I should change.   What can I do?

- I'm perfectly content with the way things are.

ALL OF THE ABOVE ARE A SURE WAY TO A DOWNWARD SLOPE.

In previous blogs I've suggested making a business plan, branding your name, becoming involved in your community, finding new friends among the movers and shakers in your community, niche/target marketing, setting aside an hour of quiet think time every evening, establishing a written game plan.....and on and on.

I doubt very much that 1 in 10 Realtors have even bothered to write a business plan.   They JUST DON'T SEE THE NEED FOR IT.  How can I say "STUPID THOUGHT" without offending you??

If you're not enjoying the kind of Real Estate success you want you MUST adopt a new way of thinking.  There is no "tomorrow" for you.  There is no luxury of delay.

Long time readers of my blog will have seen the words READ, LEARN, INNOVATE CHANGE AND ADAPT....AND THEN PUT ALL OF THIS INTO DAILY PRACTICE.   These are not just words.   They're the basis of what every successful business person must do to succeed.

Only a naive optimist would think the real estate business is the same as it was 3 years ago.   Yet, most are still operating as if it was 2006.

To those who are perfectly content drifting along in yesterdayland I wish you a happy....if not a hungry future.   To those seeing the value in change, but can't find the courage let me suggest making only one significant change to your business and marketing model per week.   Ease into it.....but be consistent in moving forward.

Start by writing a business plan..   Here's a government website with sound to walk you through the process. .....then learn everything you can about personal branding.

The last thing I want to suggest is getting those TailgateTags on your car.  You simply can't afford not to have your website, phone number or business name NOT SEEN by thousands of potential buyers weekly.  It's just not sensible.  TailGateTags are only $39.95 ea..     CLICK HERE www.TailGateTags.com

Hi David,

You are so right, FEAR is a big obstacle to overcome for many people.  Sometimes FEAR of success is more paralyzing than FEAR or failure.

A proper business plan can and will make this business predictable and any agent who fails to plan, plans to fail!  Have you ever looked at the Millionaire Real Estate Agent business plan and budget? Pretty powerful yet very simple once the plan is broken down into what needs to be done each day.  I know that it has helped me greatly.

You are so right about FEAR, David. After years of being and living fairly fearlessly, my world got turned upside down about 2 years ago. Fear was a strange,  and almost my only... companion. It has been a struggle to find myself again. One day soon I will begin the book that many have suggested I write.

I believe I have, in many ways, led a blessed life, despite obstacles that would have seemed unsumontable to many. I come from several generations of strong women and added four more in my daughters.  Patience, faith and acceptance that I am just one, has made a difference for me and brought me back from the deep despair.

Helen Keller said: "I am only one, but still I am one.  I cannot do everything but I can do something and because I cannot do everything I will not refuse to do the something I can do."
