Credit Hijacking!

New Scam Threatens To Hold Your Credit Hostage As They Extort Money From You.

In an effort to give you valuable consumer information I'm passing this along to you.

The Scam

It's the latest trend where collection agencies call and accuse you of owing a past debt. Many times the name on the debt is exactly as your own. (The trick is to accuse everybody with that same name of owing the debt)  However, they know it's not you that owes the debt. But that doesn't matter.

They've accused you of it, and it's now up to you to prove you are innocent!

Can you believe it?  They then send you out a "5 day letter" after you refuse to pay the debt. You ignore the letter because you know it isn't you. Then 30 days later it shows up as a collection on your credit! Dropping your score. Possibly getting you denied for loans and forcing you to pay higher interest rates. And this was never even your debt. See they hope you just cave in and pay the debt to avoid all the trouble. But you don't have to! Here's how.

How To Protect Yourself

If you receive this threatening call and then they follow up by sending you a letter in the mail, you must protect yourself. Write a letter stating the facts: (e.g. not mine, never lived there, wrong person, never had an account with them, etc.) Sign and date the letter, copy it for your records, and send it by certified mail. You must do this right away. There's a quirk in the law that says if you don't protest the accusation within 30 days, you are considered guilty. Credit collection agencies can simply place the collection on your credit file if you haven't protested the collection in writing.

This is just one more reason to get our complimentary "Credit Checkup" before you or anyone you know thinks of buying or selling a home. Your credit may have been hijacked and you don't even know it.

I'm here as a resource for you. I appreciate your business, your referrals, and your trust. If you know of anyone needing my services, including yourself, please give me a call.
