Kids: The Unexpected When Expecting

Expect the Unexpected. You never know when life is going to throw you a curve.Buying a Home From a Kid's Perspective  Collen Kulkowski wrote about kids perspective in home shopping.  When the sonogram came back there was a deafening silence in the room. Nervous and apprehensive I asked.."What is the problem?" The technician fiddled a little while longer, and nervously I asked "can I see the baby?" She paused a moment, and replied "Yes, them me zoom in on them"  "THEM?"  I shrieked. Not possible. "On the contrary-you are are having twins!" she said with a giggle.  Oh you must be joking I thought. There had been a history of twins anywhere I asked my 95 year old grandmother, who was shocked to say the least. But there they are! That was a decade ago...and the first thing I thought was at least the house will hold them.

Once moving to Osceola County I discovered there was plerora of twins. It must be the water!  There were 7 sets in the childrens Elementary School by the 3rd grade, and a set of triplets. There are identicals around the corner from us. After changing schools 2 years ago to Harmony because of the smaller student/teacher ratio they were the only set. Ahhh the novelty was back.  At the time the unexpected buy one get one free sale occured I had a four bedroom home. No problem. Then I moved to Osceola County.  I ended up finding a great house, with an in-law suite,a guest cottage on 2 acres with a pond but it was only two bedrooms. So we called inthe contractors. It is now a 3/2/1 which works a whole lot better for us. The kids love the huge yard, the school, and the beautiful climbing tree out front. They love their horse too. The trick was finding a place that would work for the family and our diverse interests as a whole. Hubby likes Cars...he got the 3 car garage, the kids...they love horses...yep got one of those too, and I needed it to be close to town for work.

Welcome Back my oldest child. The in law was the perfect college dorm apartment for her. She is going to UCF so the commute is reasonable. Interestingly enough, as the family grew, the property was modified to suit our changing needs. Long Term ownership was our plan.

Kids social networking is dependant on where the family lives. Schools and neighborhoods play an important role in their daily lives. From their perspective, life is very different than the adults may view it. For that reason the move from Windermere, Florida to Osceola County, St. Cloud was stress free, because of the wonderful open spaces we have come to love. As a Realtor, I advise customers to expect the unexpected. As more families become second families, it is not uncommon to have children covering a wide range in age. From College to Kindergarten. Happily the schools here are great!

Allison- I often spend a lot of time with the kids involved in a transaction because their support is really critical when it comes to making a happy move.  With my teaching background, I love the fact that I am able to welcome and support the kids making the move too.  This is an excellent post- thanks for writing it!  Have a wonderful day.

Thanks Christina

It amazes me what wonderful networkers kids are. They build friendships quickly. So having them be a part of the decision making process is important.Since any move will have the greatest impact on their world.
