OUT OF ORDER ESCALATOR

I am here to tell you that ActiveRain does not work. Many people have told me to stop blogging. Who is going to read your blog? I have to admit that there are many negative people in the world. Perhaps, I should just throw in the white towel and become a traditional Realtor like all the rest of them. I come in contact with many Realtors on a monthly basis since I host a weekly real estate talk radio show. They are down on the economy and business is slow. They cannot find new buyers. They cannot obtain any new listings without it being a short sale.

I QUIT! It would be so much easier just to say those two words. However, I received the following email about an our ago from one of my blog posts:

My name is Suzy, I would like to get more information on either purchasing a home or rent to own with bad credit. I must admit my fiance's credit is horrible however I would still like to try and see what we can do with his credit. If we can get some assistance that would be great.

Thanks in advance,

Suzy

Obviously, this person is looking for assistance by a professional Realtor. That is why she is Emailing me. She needs assistance to purchase a house or rent to own. This is how I know ActiveRain does work for me. I am in full support of ActiveRain blogging. I am hooked and never going back.

TOP 10

  9. DO NOT THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX
  10. DO NOT NETWORK WITH OTHER ACTIVERAIN MEMBERS

I just want to thank ActiveRain for providing US an inexpensive medium to express our ideas and expressions on to the Internet. I look forward to more Google Juice.

Thank you, Harry, for the list I can turn around into what to do's.  Can I ask you how you do get pictures into your posts, like the Google Juice picture or the Escalator out of order picture?  It is not something I would have sitting around in my computer and I am wondering how to go about getting things like that?  I am still learning!  Thank you!

Great post.  I have people tell me all the time that things do not work, my maps suck, our copy is stupid, really.  Well only one person said the maps were the stupidest idea ever for an agent.  I will not share his site... negative people attract negative attention.

I love Active Rain.  Not always enough time to be here, but feel honored that I can post and people will read.  If I need help, my friends and others come to help.  No agendas, just truly care about questions or issues.

Active Rain does work, and not just for agents.  For those of us trying to promote honest products, it works.  For those of us needing help with real estate, it works.

Thanks Harry, I was intrigued by your subject, you should do mass emails :)

Thank you for writing this. I really enjoyed reading through it and liked the catcy title.  I am a real newby and trying to learn what boosts points and how do I get my blog read.  One of the real benefits of blogging is feeling strong about something, and also having to know information in order to write about it.

Here is a quote I like for you:

Harry -

Blogging will not work for you if you don't work them!

Often times, many bloggers simply use the blogging platform as way to spout and vent, or say cool things.  No connection or relevance to their local market, or to other Real Estate Professionals likely to read.

Work the platform, read your audience - and, as a by-product - you will generate interest, convertible to actual BUSINESS - by blogging!

It's worked for you, and for me, anyway!

My two cents for the evening!

"It works if you work it."

Results will definitley vary, if you just want to do members only posts, post about your cat or dog, post politics, post stuff forwarded to you via email.  Or even those who  just post content to their peers are missing out on a great opportunity to talk directly to consumers about real estate and their local community.

Hi Harry,

Your Top 10 are Awesome! "I think there is an 11th Reason."

 11. DO NOT COMMIT THEMSELVES TO THE PROCESS BECAUSE IT'S TAKE TIME TO LEARN

I'm with Missy on this one. Other agents love what we are doing and say they want to learn, however are not willing to put in the time to blog. No wonder they are not doing well in Real Estate!

I love Active Rain and all the Google Juice my blog gets. As a blogger, I write for the consumer ( my target audience) in my local area. I find consumers really like reading about others Buyers and Sellers experiences and how we as Realtors helped in each situation. They like learning what's really happening in the local real estate market.  Write good information for the consumer and your  phone will ring.

Harry - great post, it is fun when you get client requests via ActiveRain. We frequently get calls or emails as a result of a our blog posts. Your blog can be an amazing tool in today's real estate environment if you use it, and use it wisely.

Agreed. Altitude is a function of attitude.

Thanks for the great headline. You penetrated the "I don't have time" conversation I have with myself and got me to 'click'.  This side venture into Active Rain was worthwhile.  :-)

The nay sayers can complain all they want...I tell people ONCE...blogging is necessary and Active Rain is the place to do it...if they don't take my one time advice, then I say...that's just more Google Juice for ME!!!!  Good post and very on the spot!

Active Rain is the number one source of traffic to my web sites.  I love Active Rain and it has made me a much better agent.

Just beginning to more actively blog.  Still learning so I appreciate your TO DO list. Thanks.

Being part of Active Rain is both educational and necessary to keep up with what is going on not only in the Real Estate market but across the country.   For those that don't bother to be informed, let them rot.

Harry, thanks for sharing your Active Rain success.  I think part of the problem with a lot of Realtors is they focus on what didn't happen rather than on what can happen!  Good luck on helping Suzy!

Harry, great attention getting headline. The bottom line is that a lot of people, not just agents, are very closed-minded and won't try something new. We are so glad we got involved with Active Rain and I'm sure the other agents on here feel the same way. Thanks for the post.

Great post, Harry.  As a Real Estate Virtual Assistant, I have helped my clients gain more online exposure - and leads - through blogging and other social media.  If I don't keep up, I'll be left behind.  Since I'm not independently wealthy, I have to work - and keep up.

I enjoyed reading your post and the comments even more (some folks in the rain are way to creative).  But Harry it's like everything else I seem to keep learning the older I get - you can please some of the people all of the time, all of the people some of the time, just NOT all of the people all of the time! :) You're a great testimony to what AR does do...  congrats on yet another well deserved featured start ...

Excellent post, Harry. Really enjoyed the negative headline to get the reader to read the story. It works every time. Kind of like putting the word "sex" in the headline, only better.

Harry, you are right on with this one.  There are a lot of agents that I come in contact with that say they are so envious of me for being so busy.  Hell, I'm not busy, I'm buried in buyers.  Why?  because Active Rain DOES work, I get referrals, and I network and take all the calls I can for buyer leads.  I don't care if they want to buy a $40K house or a $700K house.  Someone is going to find them a home, might as well be me.  Great Post

I get asked by other agents why I blog on Active Rain or what is Active Rain? Strange... last month I was found by a seller and llisted their home for $325,000 and they bought a home with me for $275,000. The average sale price in my area is $150,000... Yes, Active Rain is a waste of time!

Google images are not copyright-free.  They are simply images that Google has indexed.  Please let people know that they should not violate copyrights on images or they could face a lawsuit.  Others on AR have experienced this first hand.  There are posts on how to add images to AR posts which can be viewed by doing a Search on "clipart" or similar topics.

Can you pour me a cup of that Google Juice?  I have to agree that blogging is just a big waste of time.  I'd sooner sit around and wring my hands and mope about the crummy business. ; )

8:19pm • #148

Whoa!! Rein in the horses for a second Harry.  Images on Google images are not there for the taking.  Linking to them for your blog is still copyright violation and you should not be doing or recommending this to anyone.

If you need images, create them, buy them or contact the owner and ask to use them.  Copyright violations can take you down hard if you get caught!!!!

I teach MCE classes and blogging is always part of them, and out of all the people I've taught, only about 5 have actually signed up with AR to start blogging.  TOo many people still don't get it even when you show them proof that it works.

Oh well, more buyers and sellers for me!!

Harry, I really enjoyed your post, but have to echo the cautions about google images.  You CANNOT just take any old image there!  The majority of them are copyrighted and the unauthorized use can lead to lawsuits!!

You might want to subscribe to Lenn Harley's blog for information about copyrights.

Lisa makes a great post about images.... go get images of your own.  Picasa has a great watermark program allowing you to market through your images, on top of that you can provide potential clients with "inside" information.

It is so important to let people know who we are and what we can do for them. Otherwise how will they find us.  The first step is people must see us regularly.  Active Rain is a great way of expanding our ability to let  more people know we are their to serve them.  I can't imagine not using other traditional methods as well.

The biggest thing is being consistent and not marketing when your busy.
