I have spent the morning creating and putting away bottles of Spiced Vodka in a dark cupboard to make them perfect for Christmas, gifts for friends and of course for myself!!  If you've never had it before, it is well worth the tiny effort it requires.

Close up view of a drink in glass

makes 500 ml

1 tsp whole coriander seeds
3 cardamom pods, bruised
1/2 tsp cumin seed
1 cinnamon stick
1 dried chilli
500 ml vodka

Put all ingred. into sterilized bottle, seal and put it away to steep in a cool, dark cupboard or anywhere away from the light.

To quote Nigella, the original creator of this masterpiece: It is suggested that this be knocked back in shots, used to make a festively spiced martini or with the addition of some tomato/clamato juice, a sprinkle of salt and a dash of Worcestershire sauce, a particularly memorable Christmassy Bloody Mary!

Did I mention, my brother 'brews' my vodka?  He makes all of our red and white wine, cider, beer and now vodka - whoo hoo!

Hi David -  it has a way of sneaking up on us doesn't it.  I have to get the ingredients for making my own Kahula and Bailey's too as they need to hide away in a dark cupboard for awhile to reach perfection :0)

Thanks for the recipe.  I can only imagine the look on some of my client's faces if I gave them Vodka for Christmas!  Here in Salt Lake City it might not go over as well.  But I can make some for myself that's for sure.

Susan, It probably wouldn't go over great here in Alabama unless you hit the right house...like mine!!!  I'm not afraid to admit it that I'm a fan of Vodka.  I don't brew it at home...I find it less messy to pay the Stoli or Kettle One people to brew it for me.  Thanks for the recipe.

I'm a Stoli or Grey Goose Girl when it comes to my martini but with this kind of spiced vodka it doesn't really matter what brand you use as it takes on the spices.  Enjoy!

Connie -  Cranberry sounds wonderful!   I did a Pomegranate version this morning too -  looked quite pretty so I hope it will taste as good as it looks.  Stay tuned!

Okay Susan,

You're my kind of gal!

I had to search you out after seeing your comment on Alan's post tonight. So what's the recipe for the pomogranate vodka? I've got to know that one, give it up girl!

Lynda -  its a tricky one :0)  empty 2 pomegranates into 500 ml of vodka.  Cap and store in dark, cool place.  When ready to drink, strain into a clean bottle and enjoy!  I'm using homemade vodka with this so I'll let you know how it turns out.

Susan is the low carb?  It sounds wonderful.  I always liked some hot mulled wine at Christmas.

White spirits are low carb Gene!!!  Careful what you mix with it though :0)  I love the smell of mulled wine throughout the house - smells very Christmassy.

Hi Susan, both recipes sound delicious - I will have to get it a try.  I'm glad you answered the question about what kind of Vodka, I was wondering about that. Thanks for the recipes!  It will be bottoms up at Christmastime.
