With the bulk of the $787 billion stimulus package still unspent, some lawmakers say, President Obama should not be adding yet another $13 billion to the deficit by funding a one-time $250 Social Security payment.
After Obama called on Congress to approve the lump-sum payment to Social Security recipients to make up for not getting a cost-of-living increase, House Minority Leader John Boehner said he'd be "happy" to support it -- so long as Congress takes the money out of the stimulus.
"The stimulus bill is not working. The American people are asking, 'Where are the jobs?' And if we're going to provide this benefit to our seniors, why don't we take it from stimulus funds that clearly aren't getting the job done?" Boehner said.
They are also expected to offer an amendment to use stimulus funds to pay for a proposed $245 billion allocation to keep Medicare doctors from being hit with steep cuts in federal reimbursement fees.
So the stimulas is not stimulas at all. It is being used to build bigger government and fund cuts proposed by the healthcare bill.
No wonder forclosures and unemployment are at all time highs. The money the administration claimed would fix it is being realocated.
"FRAUD" is what this is. If you and I borrowed and I do mean borrowed, money for one thing and then did something else with it, we would be in jail.

This has been going on for decades on both sides of the isle, and "we" voted for change. The only way "change" will occur is to completely clean house (pun intended). It is only getting worse, and so few seem to care. I would can the "stimulus" completely and let the market correct itself as not having a stimulus would actually be a stimulus to the markets.
Hi Terry.
I did not vote for this "change." This "change" is NOT something that I believe in... as in "change" is the status quo, same old same old... all talk :P

The stimulus is a crock. If big business new that they were not going to get money from the government, they would have had to work with the people. Especially the banks!!!
He can take his change and shove it. I'd rather see jobs than a big fat check for $250
I took my 15 year old in today to his Dr. to see if he has the H1N1 (he doesnt) cost only $55.00. PAY FOR YOUR OWN HEALTH CARE PEOPLE!
Oh Larry - You are just a mean old capitalist that has no compassion on those who don't have $55.00.
