The Snow is Melting in Red Lodge, Montana.   We Are Returning to Fall Weather!

You never know what to expect with weather when you live at 5,555 feet above sea level and in beautiful Red Lodge, Montana.   We had above seasonal temperatures in September and then we were surprised by Mother Nature with snow on September 30th and early in October.  For those of you who left me comments in my previous two posts with regards to "snow already?" I just want to assure you that most it is gone.   I heard that some of you back in the Northeast may be getting your first snow fall today.

The following photo was taken right at sunrise on Friday, October 2009.  Snow came early but I am happy to report that it did not stick for long and the green grass is back!

Another Beautiful Sunrise in Red Lodge, Montana - October 16, 2009

Fall is back in Big Sky country! But who knows we may be getting some more white stuff before the end of the month.  As long as it does not get cold, I am happy.

Have a great weekend!

Hi Gerry, from your pictures you can see you live in an beautiful area.  As you know the Toronto, ON area gets enough snow but not near as much as other places in the USA.  We have to tell you though, if we had the choice, the beaches of Florida would probably win.

Your whole state is beautiful.  But beauty is not JUST for Montana. You ought to visit us in the East.  Especially this time of year. BTW, nice shot.

Al and Peggy,

Thank you.  Compared to Montreal, we may have a few more days of snow but we don't seem to get lots of snow accumulation on any one day (plus we are not equipped with as many snow removal equipment).   The temperatures are a little warmer in the winter months in Red Lodge compared to Montreal (plus no extended periods of cold snap as I was used to in la Belle Province).   We also don't need air conditioning in summer as the temperature rarely goes above 90F (or 32C).  I can understand the need to visit the beaches especially in the winter time and I have found memories of my visits to Florida.  However, I think I have had more photo opportunities (especially when it comes to Mother natures creations) here in Montana than I have had in any of the other places I have lived or visited.  I hope you enjoyed you latest visit South.  I have to come by and visit your blog to check out the Fall colors that you were able to capture on your most recent trip.

Kenneth,

Thank you.  Beauty is everywhere.  I have had a difficult time keeping up with posting as much photos that I would like given all the photo opportunities I run across especially during my visits to Yellowstone National Park.  I will admit I liked the changing of the colors in the Fall much more back East.  We did not get to experience them as long as I would have liked it here.

Hi Gerry ~ Awesome photo! Glad to know the snow is melting. We had our first flakes this morning.  Funny - I was on the phone this morning talking to my father about the snow and I mentioned your blog and your wonderful photos. I'm going to forward him a link.

This is a very pretty photo Gerry. We've had some strange weather in these parts- Ice so bad last Saturday they reported 282 accidents in 24 hours in Colorado Springs alone! This weekend, in the 70's. Go figure...

Gerry - Great picture. We are still in the low 90's here in North Florida. I hope some cooler weather comes our way soon.

Debi,

Thank you.  I believe the weather is getting stranger and less predictable every year for many locations around the world.  Sorry to read that there has been so many accidents in COlorado Springs due to the icy weather conditions.   I am also amazed on how quickly we went from 70's to 20's and now back up to the high 60's here in a period of 3 weeks.

Robert,

Thanks.  If we can combine the different temperatures around the country, I am sure everyone would be comfortable with the average temperature.   We can only wish it was that easy!

Hi Gerry - The splash of American color is very gorgeous in your sunrise photo.  I hope the snow stays away for a long time in Toronto.

When I first viewed your very cool photo Gerry I was thought it looked liked it could have come from a Sci-Fi promotion! Those colors are unbelieveable, it must have been glorious to experience it in person!

Debra,

Thank you.  The moose was out here right after one of the first snow falls.  He did not stick around too long for me to find out whether he likes the Fall weather or the cooler weather with the snow.   Enjoy the warmer Alaskan weather for this time of year!

Marc,

I also wish that the snow stays away for a long time in Toronto.  Thank you for checking out the sunrise photo.

Cynthia,

No Sci-fi promo.  I did not see any space ship to capture with the nice sky colors and if I did, I don't remember it.  I never take the beauty of the morning sky at sunrise for granted but the one on this morning deserved to be photographed and shared.  It was a pleasure sharing it with you and the online community.

Gerry that is an absolutely gorgeous photo.  The colors are magnificent.  Brrrrrrr....are you getting battened down for a long cold winter.  I honestly don't miss that part - miss the skiing - but not the cold!

Anna,

Thank you.   No "Brrrrr" yet.   This weekend's tempoerature is in the 60's.  I am looking for forward to the start of the ski season.   It is good to have snow (to play and to admire) but without the cold.

Gerry -

Your photographs are wonderful and such a treat for those of us in busy urban areas.  We love your part of the world - just can;t get there as often as we would like.

Love the moose -

Michael
