My owner is a Realtor with Century 21 Award in Mission ValleyIf you carve your own pumpkin rather than buying one of those plastic or ceramic ones, and you either throw away the seeds or roast them in the oven to eat, it's

VERY IMPORTANT

that you follow these instructions before doing either of those.

First, wash the seeds thoroughly and let them dry.

Pumpkin seedsSecond, count the number of seeds. This makes a great family or group event since there can be many, many seeds. You can even provide prizes to the person counting the most seeds. If you do more than one pumpkin, provide a prize to the person with the most seeds. Just make sure no one cheats! It is Halloween, after all, and ghosts and goblins will do strange things to win!

Third, write a check to your favorite charity for one dollar for each seed. If you want, you can write a check to all your favorite charities. You can change the amount if you'd like. The important thing is to recognize a charity. A great one to recognize this month is any cancer research organization since October is Breast Cancer Research Month.

Fourth, throw the seeds away, save them to plant in your garden next year, or follow this great recipe and roast them to eat as a snack.

That's it!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

How about eat half and save half to plant for next year? A valuable lesson for the treasury department.

The title caught my attention, so here I am. No opinion on pumpkin seeds - never carved or eaten one, (no gasps of surprise please). I did try pumpkin pie once, but didn't like it.

I do think that donating to breast cancer research is a great idea in breast cancer awareness month. (My sister is a survivor, so I bang the drum for that one).

Cat pic is adorable. Love it.

Hi Jim ~ You had me going with this one - I thought it was an alert about some danger of pumpkin seeds that I didn't know about.  Good one - great idea.

Hi Jim - what a fun post!  And an interesting way to determine a donation to a worthy cause (Although a dollar a seed is a bit rich for me, but adjusting the price I could do that).

How dare you say throw those seeds away! Those things are better than sunflower seeds far as I'm concerned. Eat them and eat them all and tell you kids if they eat them a pumpkin will grow inside them so you will get even more pumpkin seeds for yourself.

A few times I've thrown them in the gardne and the following year I've had a few pumpkins.

Hey, Sandra - Thanks for stopping by.

Hey, Georgina - I presume you're talking about Bananatude and Cosmic Cow Pie.

Hey, Russ - The most we ever found was 341 seeds, and we specifically chose a big pumpkin that year.

Hey, Moshe - I think that's Advanced Finance, which the Treasury Department isn't ready for yet - LOL.

Hey, Denise - You're the first person I've ever found who doesn't like pumpkin pie.

Hey, Liz - I think it was Bob Stewart that said to write good titles to draw people in to read your blog. I hope he knows that I listened - LOL.

Hey, Linda - We've been doing the pumpkin seeds in our household for 15 years now.

Hey, Susan - Adjusting the price is okay, or you can choose a smaller pumpkin, too.

Hey, Melinda - Thanks for stopping by.

Hey, Todd - I seriously hope that people don't throw them away, but I realize that some people do.

Hey, Brian - Probably the birds and squirrels ate the rest of them.

Hey, Al and Peggy - Are you back from the States? Hope you had fun.

Hey, Leslie - Write a good title and bring the readers in - LOL.

I love the pictures, but I can't tell if that last one is supposed to be something spook, or if it's just a piece of pumpkin pie!

I LOVE pumpkin pie.  It was our Canadian Thanksgiving last week but I was on holidays in Cuba so missed out on the turkey and pie.  You've just made me crave some.

Jim,

What a fun idea! Great recipe too. It's always nice to give back in your own way as the holidays approach. Thanks for the suggestion!
