If you carve your own pumpkin rather than buying one of those plastic or ceramic ones, and you either throw away the seeds or roast them in the oven to eat, it's
VERY IMPORTANT
that you follow these instructions before doing either of those.
First, wash the seeds thoroughly and let them dry.
Second, count the number of seeds. This makes a great family or group event since there can be many, many seeds. You can even provide prizes to the person counting the most seeds. If you do more than one pumpkin, provide a prize to the person with the most seeds. Just make sure no one cheats! It is Halloween, after all, and ghosts and goblins will do strange things to win!
Third, write a check to your favorite charity for one dollar for each seed. If you want, you can write a check to all your favorite charities. You can change the amount if you'd like. The important thing is to recognize a charity. A great one to recognize this month is any cancer research organization since October is Breast Cancer Research Month.
Fourth, throw the seeds away, save them to plant in your garden next year, or follow this great recipe and roast them to eat as a snack.
That's it!
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
