Two F-16 planes, based out of Shaw Air Force Base in Sumter, South Carolina, collided on Thursday evening, about 40 miles of the South Carolina coast.
Both jets are single-seat aircrafts, participating in a routine 80-minute training flight designed to prepare pilots for nighttime missions.
The jet piloted by Capt. Lee Bryant landed safely at the Charleston Air Force Base. Bryant was examined at the base, suffered no injuries and was released.
The jet piloted by Capt. Nicholas Giglio is still missing.
Giglio of Lacey Township, NJ, graduated Lacey Township High School in 1995, has been a fighter pilot for 18 months and has been at Shaw Air Force Base in Sumter for a short time.
The search continues as officials presume that that the pilot is in the water and needs to be rescued.
Our hopes, thoughts and prayers are with Nicholas Giglio and his family.
