Taking time to Travel - Valley of the Temples in Agrigento in Sicily, Italy. I just got back from a trip to Italy and thought I'd share some photos. This is the Valley of the Temples, built more than 2700 years ago in Agrigento. There were 9 temples there, some clearly in better condition than others.  The construction was amazing especially when you think about it all being done without modern equipment.  The picture below is me and my broker Tracy Haskins in front of one of the temples. It shows how huge these structures are.

The picture below shows the "U"s carved into the stone which were used for the pulley system to build these massive temples.

I miss my trips to Europe.  And never been to Sicily.  All we think about Sicily is the Mafia. I didn't realize they would have all these temples.  Thanks for sharing, and I look forward to the rest of the pictures.

Thanks Joan. I'll be sharing more of different places.

Ginger, Go ahead and make plans to do it! Life is short!

Jane, There's a lot in Sicily including Pompeii, Mt. Etna, lots of ancient ruins and lots of stairs! This was my 3rd trip back to Europe. I lived in London in college and worked there doing a internship. 10 years ago I went back to go backpacking through 5 countries.  I'm already planning one for next spring with my dad. I realized I need to go see things more often than every 10 years.

Janna, Don't wait for someday! We did a lot of walking, 5 to 7 miles a day, according to my pedometer. :) I think it's one of those trips where you should plan to go while you are fit and healthy enough to do it.

The next pictures will be Mt. Etna, an active volcano. Stay tuned!

Which college in London?  I am English, by the way.

Jane, I worked at Liberty of London on Regent Street in London. My flat was in Earl's Court, a 5 story walk up and mine was on the 5th floor. I was there on a work study program from my 1st college in NY.

Jen, I will be looking forward to seeing he rest of the pictures you took.  It is amazing the technology that they had back then to be able to construct these structures.

I love that store.  Looks like an original tudor house.  And Earls Court - SW, I believe.  I lived NW, West Hampstead.  I bet that was a great experience.

Why can't planners figure out that things built 2700 years ago are still standing, but thanks to regulations and planning, we can no longer build a home that can even stand 100 years.
