Becoming A Trust Agent

Trust Agents by Chris Brogan and Julien Smith In my travels through the blogosphere I frequently stop by ChrisBrogan.com for his insights on social media and social networking. Over the weekend I was able to chat with Chris for a few moments at BlogWorld Expo while he signed my copy of his new book Trust Agents: Using the Web to Build Influence, Improve Reputation, and Earn Trust.

Trust agents are "the digitally savvy people who use the Web to humanize business using transparency, honesty, and genuine relationships." More than just a book of social media theory, Chris and co-author Julien Smith include several action items such as "Build a Listening Station", "Make an Impact With Comments", and "Leverage Your Position."

The book is eight chapters, so I'll be reviewing it over the next 8-10 weeks. If you're looking for ideas on how to effectively use social media and build a trusted online presence, Trust Agents would be a good addition to your library. Look for the review of chapter 1 - Trust, Social Capital, and Media - by next weekend.

I think Chris Brogan is over-rated. He thinks too highly of himself. He has some good points to make, but being "personable" doesn't appear to be one of his strengths. Just my opinion.
