On field visits to many of the homes we've staged, I've seen some really creative use of Black and White to make rooms both memorable and contrasty. Even in builder-biege rooms, the black and white makes for a sharp and smart look and I find that buyers can easily remember these rooms after looking at homes all day.

They may not like the sharp look for themselves but it jumps out among all the other homes they see that look alike. It's a bold move to increase stickiness of a listing. See for yourself:

Have you experimented with using Black and White to stage rooms? If so, what's your expereince been?

Just wonderful!  Who would have thought it?

This is a very clean look.  It really makes a memorable impression - which is what we want to do in real estate.  Give me some ideas.  Thanks for posting.

Very appealing, looks very urban and for sure we don't see this look in the suburbs, but I'll bet it would go over Big!

Thanks, Linda - we've done this a few times just north of you in Naperville and it works great. For many buyers (who always seem to shop for furniture at the same time they look at homes) they see this look in crate and barrel and west elm. Hiring a good stager (hint, hint) makes a big difference! Look us up next time you have a vacant listing - we'd love to help you move it.

Hi Thomas, Love the black and white colour scheme. I use it with teenager rooms. It is always well received whether in town or out in horse country. In fact, in the country, I use a large photo head shot of horse in black in white in the room. Always favourable comments with that one.

I love the B&W look! Maybe it reminds me of the days I used to spend in the darkroom or the Ansel Adams photographs I am so fond of.

There is a very classy undertone to a black and white print in a black frame with a white matte!

These are GREAT photos! I like EVERY room.  You know what I like almost as much as the B+W staging?  Your artful use of the word 'constrasty'!  That was memorable as well!

I've been wanting to do a black-and-white themed house for months now, but have not thus far had a home manager or a house that was primed for it.

It is definitely a great counter-point to builder beige.

Good post as always, Thomas!

How beautiful. How elegant.

Do you remember what color you used for that LOVELY living room wall? Think I have to give that a try in my own home!

Nice work! I also love the first photo and the wall color that softens the black and white theme.

Thomas:  I love to work with black and white any chance I get.  It is such a basic and often over-looked color scheme to work with, but it is packed with power.  I posted these photos a few months ago and we had a very quick sale with this condo.  Looks like we have the same coffee table.  It is great ot see another take on the same idea.  This combo does not work in every situation, but if it did, it would make things a lot easier for many projects.  Have a great day from the Pacific Northwest.

Todd- I love the look of black and white (you'd know this to be true if you saw the inside of my closet) especially when you're surprised by some small "pop" of color.

I bought a Zebra print at the Abilene Zoo Gift Shop and framed it and love it.   Black and white is great for staging as they are both neutrals!

Black and White are my "go to colors" when a property has a little age, is boring, or has one committed paint color.  The B&W items are always fresh and fun.  I once had a lavender master bedroom that the seller wouldn't paint so we brought in the B&W and it neutralized it for a quick sale.

I love your photos.  Great work!

Absolutely love the use of black & white.  I had a room that had a blue paint color that was a little too bright....or so we thought.  Once we paired it with the black and white it looked beautiful!  Thanks for sharing your work!

Thomas,

It really does make a bold statement.  I like the touchs of pink and purple in with the black and white.  Those colors really stood out!  Great job.
