Ok, I can't claim original thought on this one - it come courtesy of MSN - but it sure did resonate with me.  I frequently leave the house without breakfast (I know, my wife berates me too), lunch time seems to come just as I am either going to or coming back from seeing property and then there is always that afternoon "pick-up".

So what's a fellow to do? I am a Realtor.  I drive, I eat, I drink.  Carpe Diem!

10 Worst Foods to Eat While Driving

1. Coffee: It always finds a way out of the cup.

2. Hot soup: Many people drink it like coffee and run the same risks.

3. Tacos: "A food that can disassemble itself without much help, leaving your car looking like a salad bar."

4. Chili: The potential for drips and slops down the front of clothing is significant.

5. Hamburgers: From the grease of the burger to the ketchup and mustard on top, plenty of goop can end up on your hands, clothes and steering wheel.

6. Barbecued food: Similar issue arises for barbecued foods as for hamburgers. The sauce may be great, but it will end up on whatever you touch.

7. Fried chicken: Another food that leaves you with greasy hands, which means constantly wiping them on something, even if it's your shirt. It also makes the steering wheel greasy.

8. Jelly- or cream-filled doughnuts: Has anyone ever eaten a jelly doughnut without some of the center oozing out? And jelly can be difficult to remove from material.

9. Soft drinks: Not only are they subject to spills, but they also can fizz as you're drinking them if you make sudden movements.

10. Chocolate: Like greasy foods, chocolate can coat your fingers as it melts against the warmth of your skin, leaving its mark anywhere you touch. Try to clean it off the steering wheel and you could end up unintentionally swerving.

You got me at #1. It always finds a way out of that cup and on something. Talking from experience. Thanks for the top 10 list. Very enjoyable.

Sounds an awful lot like my own experiences...all 10 items. Also never set coffee on dash o rit will spill . I am still smelling it in my defroster vents.

Michael,

Very funny.  Sometimes it's hard to avoid eating while you're driving, but it's often a disaster just waiting to happen.

This is why I wear dark clothes and have plenty of wet wipes. I can't lay off those hamburgers but always on the go! This was a good laugh, thanks for that!

Harry - Simpatico!

Heath - ditto on the barbeque chips, fine food.

Trey - Why did they make dashboards if not to hold coffee?

Brian - That disaster waiting to happen is why I often have an extra shirt/tie in the car with me.

Hey - Anybody notice that the first five folks to respond were all guys?

Terri - I envy you, somehow, "crisp DARK shirt" is never featured as part of a man's attire!

After a weekend of cold, non-stop rain I thought a good laugh was in order.

One time I was eating a slice of pizza and who knows what I was thinking when I turned the wheel, pizza in the same hand and the hot cheese dripped right off onto my pants!  Needless to say I'll stick with the coffee stains and not the hot cheese burning my leg! lol

Ouch!  I would agree, coffee just burns for a minute, hot cheese sticks.  And then there are the cheese nachos. . . .

Michael,

I was surprised to see some people drink soup while they are driving.  I could only imagine the messes as I was scrolling down your list.  Thank you for the list and for the descriptions of the messes waiting to happen at the next curve or bump on the road.  :)

Gerry -

I know, I wouldn;t think of soup either except that it is now offered at places like McDonald's, Wendy's, etc. and that probably makes the difference.  On the other hand, soup in your neck of the US makes perfect warm sense!

Drat-now I'm going to go hungry.  I recently got a new car and managed to go a week without eating in it.  Now I'm back to my old habits but soup is not on the list of foods you will catch me eating in the car.

Cindy  - Congratulations, a week is a long time.  What about a chili dog?

Michael - you mean it's not illegal to eat behind the wheel.

I can't imagine eating most of these items and trying to drive.  They are so messy!  I would never have thought soda or chocolate would be a problem.

Kathy - eat all you want, just don;t talk on your cell phone in VA or the district - VERY illegal!

Sharon - Messy or not, I always have coffee and the donuts show up every so often.
