I came to my Open House today having forgotten to eat lunch.  At one o'clock, I wasn't hungry.  But now it is 3:25, and I am ravenous.

Now, this shouldn't be a huge problem.  The owners of this lovely place are well known foodies.  Surely, I can find some little nibble to tide me over for the next hour or so.

So, let's start with the fridge.  Perhaps a morsel of cheese?  Well, no.  But there is a huge jar of bacon fat, capers, five different kinds of home made mustard.  OK. Mustard isn't going to do the trick.  Not even over capers.

Now for the cupboards.  Um.  Five kinds of Viet Namese fish sauce, a dozen bottles of very exotic balsamic vinegar, lots of unopened marmalade and jelly, and all kinds of condiments, but nothing - not even a jar of peanut butter that I might dip a knife into - that might do the trick.  No crackers to nibble on.

But wait!  Are these cookies in this little bag?  Oh No!  Gourmet "Political Dog Biscuits"!  Too bad I'm not a dog!  But seriously, these are little doggy treats in the shapes of donkeys and elephants!  I love them!  Alas, not to eat.

So back to the kitchen for hmmm... dried oatmeal, eight different kinds of flour, dried red kidney beans, but no "real" food!

Not to worry.  I'll be home soon where at least I'll have leftover cold pizza and peanut butter and crackers for dessert!

Besides, some people might consider it bad form for their Realtor to raid their fridge!

Later:  I'm home.  Cold day old pizza never tasted so good!

Pat, Funny post! I often forget to bring goodies to eat when I do an Open House as well! I've never heard of political dog biscuits...there's always a first for everything!

Pat - Depending on the shape, and if I was starving to death, I might take a shot at one of those political dog bisciuts. (I wonder if they leave an after taste) :)

Hi Pat ~ Too funny! It really can be difficult on open house days to grab something to eat.  I love your description of the cabinets' contents. I've come to believe that people fall into two camps - those with ingredients and those without.  I'm in the no-ingredients camp - I wouldn't know what to do with 80 to 90% of the stuff in their cupboards I bet.

Funny, I have a bunch of Power Bars - in my own fridge!

And Liz, I have a fair number of "ingredients" but these guys were amazing - just over the top!

Pat - I'll bet that cold day-old pizza was good!  I'm thinking even the political dog biscuits would have hit the spot too. :)

I too keep a stash of energy bars handy .... in my glove compartment and in my purse.  And even if it means getting drive-thru meat on my way to an open house, I do that as well....sugar lows put me in a really bad place.  Glad you were okay and found something yummy to eat when you got home! :)

How funny.  You've put pictures of their food on your blog.  Ooops!  They didn't have any real food!  Too funny.

Pat - Are you sure you weren't at my place hosting an open house? You just described the contents of my own pantry and fridge.

So funny, I felt you pain...(I have no shame though, and probably would have eaten the political biscuits)  I'm glad now you are home safe and sound with cold pizza and peanut butter.

For dessert I had a chunky peanut butter and raspberry jelly sandwich with whole wheat Doritos stuffed in.  And I wonder why I'm not losing weight!

I'm afraid you need to to go to Cotsco and order an emergency bucket of food.  Then you can carry one of the grand selection of 275 freeze dried meals in your car and be prepared at all times.

Hi Pat... I vote that if you are doing an Open House and it's in the Fridge it's fair game!  Always keep some peanut butter crackers in your open house kit for this kind of an emergency.

Pat - When I do conduct an OPEN HOUSE , I bring little "gooodies" and set them up on a table or counter odies" for the buyers and other agents , this way I always have a snack and a drink while I am there.

Looks as if you had a slow day , the Redskins probably had an afternoon game LOL !
