Nancy, Mina and the evergrowing smile... send 'em a congratulations!!

Yesterday we went down to the Millenium Park in Chicago.  Mrs. Elvis and I went along with another couple.  We'd been to Millennium Park before, but we had an event to attend that evening, and thought we'd spend the afternoon at Millennium, and then experience the new wing at the Art Institute of Chicago (future blogginses!).

As part of Millenium Park, the Lurie Gardens are set up to display the best of indigenous plantings for the Midwest.  It's a beautiful garden, and the perfect setting for beautiful things.  And that is precisely where we encountered Nancy & Mina.

They were chatting animatedly on one of the walking paths... (that's them in the upper right photo)... and she seemed excited... surprised... and yelling "How long have you known about this??    When did you figure this out??!?"... as we approached, we discovered that Nancy & Mina had just gotten engaged.... I mean JUST.  He had chosen the natural beauty of the Laurie Gardens to propose to his natural beauty and He had just proposed, as we approached... and she was about excited as she can get.

I asked if they'd like a photo (cause as most of you other bloggers know, we don't go anywhere without a camera... right?), and I'd forward it to them.

They were excited and said "yes", as a camera was the one thing that hadn't been planned.  So I'm going to send them the photos above shortly to their e-mail address (which they provided).

I think it would also be a lot of fun, if all of the Realtors reading this blog would send hearty congratulations to Nancy & Mina too... at MJKaddis@gmail.com.

Hey, Mina... glad you found your way here, and were able to view the blog, and see how excited everyone is for you... it's contagious.  You brought an extra amount of cheer to a bunch of other people this weekend.  Fun!

Alan, thanks so much for this!  The pictures were great--the next best thing to being there, which would have been a bit awkward :)

PS-And you're right.  Wearing the ring on the right hand was deliberate.  For us, engagement=left hand, marriage=right hand.

Marian - I'm so glad that we were able to "bring the family" into this intimate moment.  And, yes, it might have been a bit akward, had you all been there.

they were just soooooooo cute!  We were talking about them, and smiling for a half-hour after we left them alone.

Hi Alan ~ Thought I'd chime in on the right hand, left hand conversation. The engagement ring on the left hand is not universal. In Germany it is also the practice when you get engaged you put the engagement ring on the right hand and it gets transferred to the left when you get married.

In Germany it's also customary to wear the Wedding Band on the right hand. Don't know about other parts of Europe. (Although the UK is the same as the US).

Mina

So in our church from Egypt (the Coptic Orthodox Church), we wear the engagement ring on the right and transfer to the left upon marriage, since the left hand is closer to your heart...

Alan - What an exciting moment and I learned something new about engagement ring on the right and marriage ring on the left.

Michelle - I knew there were some cultures that do the left hand/right hand thing... but I didn't want to make an assumption that Mina & Nancy were of another culture... (although as it turns out...they were!)

Kathleen - I know... the "feel good" story of the day.

Jackie - we thoroughly enjoyed our small part in it.
