Many new small businesses are being created

For some time I have been expecting to hear confirmation that many of America’s jobless are creating their own businesses.  When you have so many skilled yet unemployed people that have been unemployed for many weeks something has to happen.

It can be challenging for people who have always worked for someone else to start a business.  There are money roadmany considerations as well, but there has been many a business created in the past out of desperation.

While it can be a challenge starting a new business, it can also be very rewarding especially if you get the advice you need and the help you need.  It is very important to take care of the paperwork and pay all of your taxes.  Penalties and interest on past due taxes and forms can add up quickly.

Poor record keeping can prove costly in many ways.  Besides making it harder for business owners to know how their business is doing it can make it more costly when filing taxes.  It can make it much harder if you need to arrange any financing as well.  Good record keeping is a must and if it is not one of your strong points you will want to find someone to help you.

The Times recently wrote an article about the many new entrepreneurs.

Good post.  I think more people are realizing that a typical job is not what it used to be.  You have to have other options.

Syreeta Working for oneself can be a headache, but there can be a lot of job satisfaction. It is great knowing that you can do it. When the economy gets better some will probably go back to a 9 to 5 job.

Good Post Charles, and I also believe it is easier than ever to start a new enterprise - with the Internet and the technology that most of us now have in our homes, we pretty much have everything we need - just have to apply the motivation.

Charles - While starting a new business requires a special commitment and willingness to do whatever it takes, the rewards can be awesome. I'm sure many new businesses will be started out of the recession, and I suspect we'll see some new "Apples" and "Microsofts" in the not too distant future.

I agree.  Sometimes there is no better motivation to do well than knowing you have to.  There are many examples of very successful businesses that started this way.

Charles,

I've been thinking the same thing about the many talented, educated, intelligent and unemployed people out there. Hopefully some of them will create wonderful businesses that help our society.

Carra,

That is my hope as well.  It can be difficult in the beginning and I hope these businesses get the help they need to really succeed.
