Great pictures Gary, where are the mountains? Also, who is that running across the dirt road? It doesn't look like an american road runner, but I can't figure out who it is.
Liz, Thank you. I took these today in the Uinta Mountains in Southwestern Wyoming. The peak that shows is actually just south and is in Utah. The bird is a little bigger than the roadrunners that I have seen and liked. It is common in the area and its habitat is sage brush. The name is a natural then: Sage-grouse (Centrocercus urophasianus). It is the largest species of grouse.
Beautiful pictures! Definitely not the kind of scenes we get to enjoy in NW Indiana.
Irene, One of the things I love almost as much as the mountains is the abundance of wildlife. The Rocky Mountains are unique. Thanks for commenting.
