Gray is a very neutral color, one that is cooler, but easy and relaxing on the eyes.  It has that calming effect and is being used alot in home decorating in all types of roomsGray can also have a cooling effect when placed next to other more vibrant colors. It can have a stabilizing effect, making vibrant colors stand out while muting them a bit.  Instead of using white and black, try using lighter shades of gray.  You will also find grays in taupe.  Gray is a good neutral background color.  The color gray is timeless, practical, and solid.

Is gray the new "Black or White"?

Great photos!  I used white with a very light tint of gray in the bathroom and they came out great.

Hi Cindy.
I happen to like grey myself, a light gray is a very clean color.  I happen to be painting my cattle trailer gray.

Hi Cindy,

Hi Cindy!

I love gray! I used it and I think it did compliment my black candelabra very well and black and white artwork .

Cindy, I like to use grays when the hardware in a home is brush nickle.  Gray is a contempory color and is wonderful to use when a room needs to be updated.

Love the photos you selected Cindy.  I remember Julea's post about gray becoming a hot color again and have just started to see it pop up in the stores around here.  Since we see the trends a little later in our region I am happy to see we are too far behind. :)

Cindy, I did my bedroom in gray and gold.  I love walking in there because it's so calming.  Taupe is throughout the rest of the house.  Not too many people like gray and I think it is underestimated but your pictures do it justice.  Thank you!

A recent client had gray carpet, so we had to go with that color family in choosing neutral wall colors.  It was amazing how the same shade could look so different depending on what accents were used in the room.  In some rooms you would say the walls were definitely blue, and in others, you would swear they were green.  It really is a "cool" color--in more ways than one!

What a timely post!  I just picled out an entire pallet for an interior design client today in their fixer that was completely shades of a beautiful warm khaki and blue-greys.  I can't wait to see the paint colors on the walls!!!

Gray is such a classic choice when put together well ... I love mixing it with black and white accents for a clean look.

Hello Cindy!  Grey has been hot over the past year and continues to gain momentum.  Great examples you posted and most people are surprised when they see how fabulous this 'neutral' can look! Great post!
