The small, recently incorporated Valencia County town of Peralta, NM, has just elected its first mayor!
Peralta, which lies just south of Bosque Farms and north of Los Lunas, voted last March 6th to incorporate. Last Tuesday, residents elected Edward Archuleta as the first mayor of Peralta. The mayoral race pitted Archuleta against write-in candidate Juanita Burks.
At the same time, the field of six hopefuls for the town council positions was narrowed to four: Michael Leon Otero, Joseph K. Romero, Nancy Kinchen, and Christian Garcia. Louis A. Burkhard was also elected as Peralta municipal judge. He ran unopposed.
A date for the swearing-in of newly elected officials has not yet been set.
Congratulations to Peralta, New Mexico on its recent incorporation, and to Mayor Archuleta on his election!
