So you thought that the new mapping technology you have seen lately is cool? How about THIS version? Intermap and Microsoft are joining forces to use radar technology based on elevation and graphic interfaces to create a virtual online version of the real world: Virtual Earth 3-D (Beta).

I've seen quite a few "heatmaps" and stat maps and assorted bells and whistles in the mapping arena lately -- but this one goes a leap ahead, IMHO.

This newscast, from WebProNews.com gives you a glimpse of the future. Who said online maps had to be boring? Now event the virtual world is no longer flat... but it does kinda look like SecondLife, doesn't it?

How will you use this in YOUR online real estate marketing... once it hits the states?

Let me know if something is broken, it is still in beta for me!

Comparing the beta product you have on your site (which is pretty cool in its own right!) to the "enhanced" virtual earth 3-D product, the primary difference is the way the image can be manipulated from a "view" standpoint.

For instance, with the current product, you can zoom in from one direction only, then to change the view direction, you must select a new static view and the whole map "blips" until it recreates the map -- but it's still a static view, just from a new direction. So the current beta is like a series of snapshots and the enhanced version on the horizon is more like a video camera.

The enhancement  allows a "fluid"operation and permits the user to view (for instance) a home from every angle.

At least that's my take on the way it works and how the enhancement changes things.

Now, what I want to see is this product with the MULTI-TOUCH technology. With the new surface product, I'm sure that's right around the corner.

Now, what I would like to see is the ability to do the map with multi-touch on my tablet! :D
