Leucadia, a community in the north end of Encinitas, is a funky, surfer, seaside town in North County San Diego with a laid-back reputation, fabulous beaches, and a diverse collection of housing (single family apartments, condos, vacation rentals, attached homes, mobile home parks). Unlike the swankier part of Encinitas to the south, Leucadia retains much of the feeling of a surfing and beach town it has had for decades, although that is gradually changing to some extent. The community has a large number of nurseries, and Encinitas as a whole has a world-wide reputation as a flower-growing capital. And that, too, is changing, as some of the nurseries have disappeared and new homes have been built. If you are looking for homes for sale in Encinitas you might want to consider Leucadia, if that type of community appeals to you. It does NOT sport high-end boutiques, upscale restaurants, sidewalk shops crowded with tourists or the other sorts of characteristics found in some of the coastal communities that have gotten gentrified. But that's just fine with the residents. If you are seeking a beach community with a laid back feeling, terrific surfing and bathing beaches, and a low-key lifestyle, then Leucadia may be just right for you. For those buyers seeking new construction homes for sale in Leucadia has a couple of options currently available (two other small enclaves of homes built in the last year or so are sold out). But don't be deceived by the low-key nature of this town - these homes come with a big price tag, and they are all custom built. Nantucket is a small collection of homes built by Barratt American at the corner of Andrew and Sheridan, just off of La Costa Avenue near the Coast Highway. In phase two, with some homes built and occupied and others in the process, you can choose 1 of 2 remaining semi-custom homes (there are 9 on the cul-de-sac just a short distance to the ocean). These are priced at $1,820,990 (4 bedrooms, 4.5 baths, 3 car garage, 412 SF) and $2,227,990 (5 bedrooms, 5.5 baths, luxury office, 3 car garage, and 4927 SF). [see photo at right] They will be building another phase adjacent to this enclave but no dates have been approved yet for starting. Costa Laguna Estates is another small collection of high-end homes (see photo top left), all with lagoon and ocean views near the corner of La Costa Avenue and the Coastal Highway (Route 101). Two of the 5 homes have sold, but there is still time to acquire one of the remaining three, due to be ready for occupancy around October 2007. These range in price from $2.65 million to $3.3 million, with 4 - 5 bedrooms, 5 or 5.5 baths, and 4422 - 5294 SF of glamorous living and entertaining spaces. Lots are large, approximately 14,500 SF. Please feel free to let me know if you wish more information on these or similar homes in the coastal area. There is more information below regarding nearby communities, market reports and more. Be sure to take a virtual tour of Leucadia to learn more about this seaside community. The beaches in Leucadia (Grandview, for example) are terrific, with fabulous surfing and great sunsets.
