I received a call tonight from an old friend who now lives in Syosset.  A friend from Junior High School, we had spent all of our High School years together and I recalled a wonderful post I had just read by Jo-Anne Smith Who Are The 'Forever' People in Your Life?   Although I did not know it at the time, Donna was to become one of my few treasured "Forever People."  She called because she had just dressed and sent her daughter off to her Prom which made her nostalgic; she said she was thinking of US and the prom we had gone to with our old dates and the fun we'd had that night.

We spoke at length, first reliving the old days and catching up with the new.  She is in a good place in her life right now and I realized, so was I.  Although we followed vastly different paths and both had our ups and downs through the years, we were happy.  With the way we had lived our lives, risen above our failures and marveled about our triumphs.

I didn't know for many years what I wanted to do when I grew up.  And during the years I went from job to job, learning something new and when I had learned it, I grew bored.  The very first time I had heard of Feng Shui I was absolutely drawn to it.  And when they were putting the very first class together from a licensed, accredited school and you could become Certified, I knew I was going to be there.  Looking back, I put a lot on the line.  My children were young, I had a house to worry about and finances were tighter then they had ever been.

And I encountered more negativity then I expected.  From EVERYONE.  Most people didn't know what it was and those that did scoffed at it.  And told me I would never "make it."  Well, for many years I didn't, not solely as a Feng Shui Practitioner.  I worked a full time job during the week and did Feng Shui on the weekends....not very much time to have fun.  But I was working for a goal, to become a full time consultant.  And I am thrilled that I've accomplished that.  It was truly a dream (and a far fetched one at that) and became a reality.

When I work with clients, I know they have dreams as well and I encourage them to talk about them.  And then to make the time to follow them.  The ones that have been able to break the old patterns and get back to some of the things they love are living happier lives right now.  It's the things you've put aside, not taken the time to do that you love because of work that you will most regret.  For those of you that have created the balance, congratulations....and for those of you that haven't, work hard at your goals but don't forget the things you LOVE.

Carole, this post of yours was beautiful. I am so glad that your friend contacted you and that she is one of your 'forever' people.  Thank you  for referencing my post, I feel very honoured.

You are doing exactly what you are meant to be doing. You are one of the few people who has found and followed their "personal legend" to quote Paulo Coelho, and I am so glad that you have and did. So many people's lives are affected positively by you, not only in your day to day personal  life, but also in your day to day business dealings.  This is what it is all about.

I too have a 'forever' friend from high school. We met the first day of school, grade nine. She had moved across the road from me when I was 13 and I was dreading the first day of high school. My Mother said to go and ask the new girl across the street if she would like to walk to school together. I did. She agreed.  That first day of school I went over to her house to meet her and guess what ? She was wearing the identical  outfit to mine. Only hers was red, mine was blue. Even our sandals were the same. She had long brown hair and brown eyes. I had long blonde hair and blue-green eyes. Other than that we looked like sisters and were inseparable from that day forward. She lives on the other side of Canada from me now . She and her husband run an ecotourism lodge in the mountains. We still get together once a year and it is as though time has never passed. Guess what her name is ?  Carol .

I loved reading your post. It was very inspiring and beautifully written.

Jo, what a lovely story!  Seems too that you can't get away from "Carol's---with or without an E :)  I'm glad you listened to your mother, it's difficult to make the first move and now know how someone is going to react to you---but she was a Forever Friend from day one.  What a wonderful thing to hear.   And seeing these precious people is like stepping back in time, isn't it?  I always think of things I "should" have done differently, but then I wouldn't be here

Thanks for the lovely comment!

Roberta, I have missed you in the Rain!  I hope things are well with you.  Phyllis, I could "hear" it in the post how difficult that was for you to get on that plane.  I'm glad you did, also or I think you would have felt badly.  Thank you for the comments.
