Imagine how good it feels after you have cleaned your house. Now imagine how it would feel after you've cleaned the yard of a 90 year old man's home, someone you don't know. At the end, he can't thank you enough. You did it because the senior needed your help.
The 2009 National 'Make A Difference Day' is this Saturday, October 24th. It is a national day of service and giving back to the community. Make a Difference Day is an annual event that occurs that forth Saturday each October. Each year people from various walks of life as well as Realtors® give their time and money to help deserving citizens in each community, similar to neighbors helping neighbors.
This year the Arizona West Valley West Maricopa Association of Realtors® (WEMAR) Make a Difference Day will be helping seniors in Sun City, Arizona.
Many seniors do not have the resources to maintain the upkeep of their home. If a senior retired in the 70's at the age of 55, at this time the senior would be around 95 years old. At this age, many seniors would have lost their spouses and their income has reduced in half. Medicine and household expenses have increased but social security has not increased in the same proportion. Besides that, many of these seniors don't have the physical ability or enough money to pay for the maintenance on a home that is 30 to 40 years old.
If you are a member of the WEMAR, meet us at 10451 Palmeras Dr. Suite 203N in Sun City, AZ at 7am on Saturday, October 24. Be prepared to do yard work, paint, install grab bars in bathrooms, making sure that smoke detectors are working and wash windows.
People throughout the United States will be participating on Saturday, October 24. Find out what your local association of Realtors® is doing in your community for this national event created by USA Weekend Magazine. Even children can get involved. This is a wonderful opportunity in helping to do something good without getting paid.
If you do it and it fills your soul, it is the neatest thing that you can do for yourself.
