The Underwriters Haunted House ...

By
Real Estate Agent with Better Homes & Gardens, Gary Greene Realtors

How many 1st Time Home Buyers have been through the "Underwriters Haunted House"?

Recently, my client experienced two closings ... the first one was as good as anyone could hope for ... after all the papers were signed and we were off to lunch I received a call from the closing agent to come back in title for some minor updates ...
No problem ... right?
Two hours later ... my client is not happy because the underwriters are having to REVISE the closing documents for the 3rd time ....
What started out as a nice experience turned into THAT closing that nobody ever whats to experience ...

Funny thing ... my fellow agents are retelling me the same story across our great city ...
Are the underwriters over-worked?
Do they need to hire more support staff to handle the load?

Whatever the case ... beware of "The Underwriters Haunted House" lest you lose a good client and all the referrals that will never be ...

Shawn - You're singing to the choir!  Yes, lenders absolutely need to hire more underwriter because the ones they have are severly overworked and have reached their level of compentency (or incompentecy as so often is the dase).

I actually feel sorry for some underwrters who work 12-14 hr days in an effort to maintain some kind of control of their workload.  Working like that for long periods of time is neither physically healthy or professionally prudent.
