Occoquan Bay National Wildlife Refuge

The Occoquan Bay National Wildlife Refuge was created in 1998 and is the intersection of the Potomac and Occoquan Rivers. The 644 acre refuge was formerly a military research site and is another one of the hidden gems that many residents of Prince William County and Northern Virginia don't know exists. In the Spring and Summer the area is known as one of the top local nesting spots for Osprey and Blue Heron.

Cindy: What a peaceful scene. I really needed some peace and quiet today, so this visual will have to do. Gearing up for an HOA board meeting tonight after a rough day with clients.

Toula-it is a beautiful walk along the river and quiet except for the birds.

Jared and Amanda-I could stare at the water most of the day if given the chance.

Michael-when you get away from the main parking lot and walk the trails it is very peaceful. We are lucky to have so many of these great places throughout Northern Virginia.

Karen-yes we are.

Russell-mother nature did all the work I just get to enjoy it.

One picture is worth a 1000 words. That is a great looking photo and it's a real escape from trying to brainstorm a post.

Jim-my brain is is on a blog break but the fingers will still find something irrelevant to say.

This could be an ocean photo and not the confluence of two rivers. It's immense. And looks like a great place to watch birds.

Elizabeth-it is surprising how wide the rivers are at this point and of course the boaters love to go full throtle when they hit it.
