My Dog, ZoeOk, I love my dog. Her name is Zoe. She's great. But do I want to bring her to work? Not really.

I have my own office, so I can do it. I have done it. I can have her curl up under my desk at any time and I can shoo her out too. But, if I worked in an office and several of my co-workers brought in their pooches, I'd probably take a vacation day.

Does that make me a bad person?

I give to the Humane Society -- heck, Zoe is a pound puppy herself -- so I'm not anti-canine. I just don't think that this is an idea for my own workstyle.

The reports I've read this morning claim that one in five businesses participate in this event, created by Pet Sitters International. Somehow I doubt that.

In real estate, there are constant battles with dog lovers (and those with cats and other pet types) to convince them that not everyone loves their "baby" as much as they do... and perhaps "out of sight" is the best approach for showings.

So how many agents/brokers encourage this event in public offices? I'm just curious, because I can't imagine that anyone does.

Now, before you ask, Zoe is terribly un-photogenic (just like her owner) and she's not a pit bull (I get that question all the time) -- she's a boxer mix. She's also horribly dangerous -- if you are allergic to pet slobbers.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but your dog IS a pit mix.  But that shouldn't be a bad thing. Pits are the best companions ever!

haha definitely a pit mix. there should be no reason to be defensive about that!

your assumptions about the lack of participation are dead wrong.

Jessica - Thanks for the insight. I really thought this was a low-profile "event" -- but I've been wrong before. I've been told so much lately that she's a pit, I'm getting used to the idea -- but I never knew a pit that "talked" like she does. She's got that boxer trait. She talks and talks back... my kids would never get by with such backtalk!

Julie - I'd have agreed with you until recently. Suddenly, Zoe has decided she needs to go with me whenever I get in the car. You see, I started taking her to the farm with me on the weekends. Now the little fur-ball wants to go anytime I leave the house, which leaves me wondering what I was thinking when I got a white-haired dog that sheds constantly. (What WAS I thinking?) Of course, when I got her, she was going to be an outside dog. Now, we live in the city and she's an indoor pooch and sheds a carpet's worth of fur every single day. Honestly I don't know where all the fur originates!

I'm sure your Zoe is a big marshmellow, but nobody else has to know that. If you have weird people who want a private showing of one or more of your listings-take Zoe with you. If they ask if she's a Pit, just tell them you don't know cuz you got her from the ____shelter. One of my co-workers used to take her senile Springer to many of her night time showings as a safety measure. Just a thought!
