We've been teaching our oldest child how to drive. As she drives, she would sometimes wait until she gets to a turn and then try to switch over to the turning lane. Then I would tell her to continue and take the next turn, and that she would need to work on anticipating those turns. Then it dawned on me that this is not just true when one is driving; one should also anticipate the turns in business and life.
For example: If there is a chance that your company may be heading a different direction, one should anticipate those turns by taking the necessary training, or acquiring the necessary knowledge that will continue to make you and asset with that company, or prepare you for the next thing.
If one is using outdated systems to run a business, and tomorrow's economy requires you to update these systems, then one should anticipate these turns and make the necessary preparation.
If you intend sell your home in the future, are you making the necessary updates, repairs or staging necessary to reduce time on the market and increase your profits. Maybe you intend to purchase a home in the future, are you making the necessary preparations to make sure that your credit score will be enough to qualify for a loan, or that you have enough to make a down payment.
But, what happens when we miss these turns? Will we continue going the same direction?, Make a U-turn?, Or will we take the next turn that leads to the destination?
What are you doing to prepare yourself for the turns ahead?
Hi Victor, you have shown a good parallel using driver's ed training. This is a thought provoking post... and at times like these... with changes happening speedily... we NEED to anticipate and prepare!
