Staging Arizona Real Estate:  Value of Your Service: Putting a price tag on what you do

If someone called you and asked you "How much does it cost?" or "What is your price?" What do you say?  Do you put a dollar amount on the "perceived value" of your service or are you hourly?

What is the value of the service you offer?  If you had to put a price tag on your service, do you get enough?  If not, are you doing your "job" because you enjoy it and are passionate about it?

Brian Tracy sends me a daily email with a "Quote For The Day".  Today's thought really provoked me to think about today's real estate industry and the technologically savvy clients that we are all trying to either keep up with or stay head of.

The quote for 6/22/2007 was:

"There are only four ways to create value (in a digital economy): information, entertainment, convenience, and savings" - Jay Walker, Priceline founder

Information - Is there ever enough?  Here on Active Rain alone, we are over 35,000 members strong.  According to The Phoenix Real Estate Guy, Jay Thompson, there are over 70,000,000 (70 million) web logs (blogs) currently on line with over 100,000 new blogs created daily.

Entertainment - Not only do our clients want to know everything we do (that's why they hire us anyways - we're the experts, right?), but they also want to know that you  and I have their best interest at heart and that we're human.  Shared interests go a whole lot further in developing relationships than the person who is trying to "constantly close". Certainly there is a defined difference between (tele)marketing and sales?

Convenience - This may be a rude awakening - but did you know that the real estate industry is open 24/7, 365?  Home buyers and property sellers are expecting REALTORS® to provide the same service as the internet - instantly. The real estate industry does not take holidays and as witnessed at the First Southwestern Blogging Conference here in Mesa, Arizona, real estate professionals are card carrying members of the Trio, Blackberry, cellular phone, instant messaging, wireless, internet world!

Savings - When negotiating down your commission or lowering your price is not an option, then what is the perceived value of the service you offer?

FOR REAL ESTATE AGENTS:  And speaking of perceived value,   How about a blog or two about the value of a REALTOR's service.  Yesterday it dawned on me: Like most consumers, I have no idea how much money an agent will spend marketing just one of their listings.  Multiply that by the number of your listings and you are spending a whole lot of money!  (If you wouldn't mind please put a link to your blog in your comment.)
