We can help with Maine's No on 1 campaign!

Many of you remember how vocal I was when California's Proposition 8 was on the ballot, and how devastated when it actually passed. I believe it passed partly due to confusion about how to defeat it, and partly because many of us did not show up to vote.

In 12 days (November 3) Maine is voting on Prop 1. We can help the NO on 1 campaign by calling people in Maine and reminding them to vote, and to vote NO on 1. Click the image to the right if you are able to sign up for a phone shift.

Chris: This is a great idea. All of us who feel this is very important... we really need to DO something to assure the the outcome is one that promotes equality for ALL. Way to go, Chris !

the wedding stories are inspirational......

everyone should have the right to live their life according to their own belief system...

Unfortunately people are too busy playing God in other people's lives..

i sometimes wonder whom God will punish more severely ...the sinner...or the Christian Judging the sinner...

personally I believe the latter....

Thanks Karen Anne! I know you remember how mad I was about California's Prop 8. There's a lot of work to do and I just want to keep moving forward with it. This will happen, we will have equality for ALL.

You're welcome Linda Mae. I'm afraid those people judging others will have a rude awakening on "judgment day".

Chris: Thank you for the timely post. The polling shows it is neck & neck. Maine has a very strong tradition of independence and personal freedoms. The Catholic Church is taking collections to take equal rights away from the gay citizens of Maine. I think their tax-exempt status should be stripped away, but that is for another topic.

@ Scott: Even though I was "raised" Catholic... I totally agree that the tax-exempt status of Catholic churches that engage in political activities... should be canceled. If they are churches, fine. If they want to get into politics... fine, too. That just means they have to pay taxes. This is America, they have choices. Free speech and all. It's just that they have to follow the same rules everyone else does. Churches are tax-exempt. Churches that front as churches, but are very much involved in political activities... should NOT be tax exempt.

Let's see what happens when they have to play by everybody else's rules !

I agree with you and Karen Anne that the churches should lose their tax exempt status.

Chris, any church that participates in political activites should lose their tax exempt status, period. I will definitely sign up for the phone banking. Been doing that fo over 40 years, I'm a pro! THANKS!

Hi Chris...Slowly but surely we are moving to more equality for all of us. Sometimes it feel like we take a step backwards but I truly think we're going in the right direction.

Chris, It's unbelievable that this is still going on. Someday same sex marriages will be legal but it's one long, difficult fight.

Carole, it is unbeleivable to me as well. It's inevitable that we will win equality for all, I just can't imagine fighting so hard against it.
