Signals, dropped calls, and the iPHONE...

At Brads suggestion (and if my phone worked it would be great), I purchased an iPHONE in July.  Ever since I purchased the phone, I have not had good service in my home or office.  I have constant dropped calls and people tell me they only hear every other word I say when I am using my phone.

That being said,  YES, I have updated my phone, they have given me a new SIM card, I have done everything on earth to get this situation rectified.

Today, out of TOTAL FRUSTRATION, I took my phone back to BEST BUY and explained the situation.  I bought my phone at BEST BUY, because they offer "insurance".  When I bought the phone, I was told that if there were ever any issues with the phone, they would replace it.   WELL - NOT!!!

When I went there today, they said that the policy had changed - mine was old (bought the phone in July - OLD???) and that they would have to send my phone back to APPLE, overnight, and that I would have a replacement in 3 days...DO THEY NOT KNOW WHAT 3 DAYS WITHOUT A PERSONAL PHONE MEANS TO A REALTOR(R)???  They offered to give me a totally different phone...not sure what it was, and offered to teach me how to use it...um...it took me 3 weeks to be comfortable with all the features of the iPHONE...AND, I have customers flying down to go see properties with me.  I count on the GPS (and it works well for me) and also the features that I know can use without thinking.

So, with all the above, the sales "Assistant Manager" told me that there are many complaints about the same thing in my area.  The server is AT&T...AT&T tells me I am in a high signal area and they are currently working on boosting it even further.

The "Assistant Sales manager" talked to the "Assistant store manager" and I talked to the Sales Manager of the phone department and they still would not honor my "old" (July) contract.  What is the point of buying at BEST BUY, and purchasing their "insurance" if they won't honor the contract, saying that APPLE CHANGED THEIR POLICY.  Was I notified of this change, NO.

What would you do???

I'd be furious...it seems customer service is dead most places.  I'd call apple customer service...my laptop had an issue...they sent me a new one...then I sent back my old one, that way I wasn't inconvenienced anymore than I had to be.  Hopefully they'll do the same with the iphone...good luck!

Mike,

After 2 hours with the phone connected to my lap top, diagnostics, and At&T giving me a new SIM card for free...they told me the phone needed replaced...then they wanted to give me some other rediculous phone instead of loaning me an iPHONE that I knew how to use...I left with the same phone in hand.

Do you have the phone number to contact APPLE?  Would love it if you do.

I don't have the time to figure out to use a "so called" similar, strange phone when I'm showing million dollar properties...would you?

I tried a Blackberry Storm from Verizon-- junk! Next was the I-phone,,, reminded why I don't like the MAC I had for a short time. Thankfully, another Palm Treo was purchased! Went through that mess last month and don't know what I'll do if/when the Treo stops being available. Without it for a month while trying the latest was a disaster!

John,

Thank you for your comments.  One would think if they were going to launch an iPHONE with all the wonderful things you SHOULD BE ABLE TO DO WITH IT...they would ALSO HAVE SERVICE TO THEIR CUSTOMERS IN PLACE - before the launch!

I mean to tell you, when the iPHONE WORKS - and if I want to stand in my yard, if it is not raining...it's great...

AND, I am supposed to be in a "HIGH" SIGNAL AREA?????????????????

Let them know I was going to stand outside with a sign telling their customers coming in that they don't honor their service contracts.  Okay, so maybe I'd just say that... after consulting with a friend who works in their mobile department.

Lot's of problems here with AT & T service too. Dead zones, drop zones , in and out zones.....may not be your phone.

Karen,  I have the iphone and it's my second 'smart' phone. IMHO smart phones have never had top phone features across the board.  But the other features, some of which you mentioned, are the trade off.  ATT won't ignore any metro area for long, but it is what it is for now.

I've been thinking of getting the iPhone and this does make me nervous.  Realtors need a phone as a lifeline.  I would be really traumatized by this type of "customer service".  --Sara

I have a BlackBerry Storm with Verizon and I love it.  I have yet to find a place where it won't work and we near an AirForce Base that can really mess with cell signals.

Sorry to hear about your troubles and hope you get it fixed soon

Daniel,

I think I'll just take this blog with me to the store...I made this public, so anyone who googles those words will find this situation.

Trey,

I spent two hours on my land line while AT&T worked on updating my phone and computer and iTUNES, AND everything under the sun.  Gave me a new SIM card which was supposed to correct the issue.  They told me the phone needed replaced.

Best Buy said APPLE changed it's policy and that they have to over night the phone to them, they take a day to work on it and then I can have it back 3 days later.  Problem is, they want to give me a Prius (I think that was what he called it) instead of loaning me an iPHONE like I have and know how to use.

SOMEONE FROM APPLE - CALL ME!!!

Chain RE,

I am in one of the strongest AT&T areas.  They just put a service booster behind my home, so I don't think that is causing the problem.

I agree with the rest of your comments.

Karen,

Just checked back into your blog and had an idea.  Is there an apple store in your area?  Maybe they can help you out better.

Dan,

That's a great idea.  I don't think there is but I will google it to find out.

This whole situation is so aggravating to me.

I wonder if Brad would have any suggestions...

I was a Crackberry addict for many years. Didn't know what I'd do without my dedicated Microsoft Exchange server for my email, since it really isn't supported by the iPhone. But, the guy in the AT&T store I've trusted for 4 years, always knows the latest stuff, showed me all the reasons the new stuff with 3Gs, so I went with it.

Wow, have to make a call 4-5 times to make it go through, dropped calls, missed calls (love it when my phone "dings" me with a voice message when my phone didn't ring!) poor reception...

When my phone's backlight went out 3 months after purchase, they told me they could send me a new one next-day, but would put a "hold" on my credit card for $699. WHAT??? I bought the darn phone for $199! Gimme a break! Oh, and the hold would be on until the old phone got shipped back (after the new one arrived) and then logged into the system- "takes anywhere from 7-30 days". Gotta love AT&T!

Aaron,

I have the same crap. However, the positives outweigh the negatives and I think they are working on it.  My phone "dings" when I get a text - check that out.

I paid $300.00 for mine through Best Buy and bought the insurance...If you take your phone to an At&T store, they will help you and replace it at the store so you don't have to be without...check it out.
