Whether you love Microsoft or hate them, this is a big day for them as they have officially released their latest operating system: Windows 7. Initial reviews have been mostly favorable (then again, they were favorable for Windows Vista also).
There are two major flavors of Windows 7, a 32 bit and 64 bit. (You must have a 64 bit procesor to install 64 bit Windows 7). Then there are three sub-versions of this operating system: Home Premium, Professional and Ultimate. To compare the differences of these versions, click here.
Minimum requirements for Windows 7 is at least: a 1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor, 512 MB of system memory, 20 GB hard drive with at least 15 GB of available space, Support for DirectX 9 graphics and 32 MB of, graphics memory, DVD-ROM drive, Audio Output, Internet access. (More RAM is recommended).
For those with Windows Vista an upgrade is possible (but clean installs of a new operating system is always recommended). While those with Windows XP or earlier will need to do a clean install and re-install all programs and data.
