The Great Smoky MountainsIt’s seems that Old Man Winter has arrived early in many places. And although many places are returning to normal October weather, the withered plants and dry leaves are a clear reminder that it won’t be long before the trees are bare and we’ll settle into our winter cycles.

I am an early riser, but it’s getting harder and harder to be up by six in the morning. And at ten o’clock at night I am completely drained and ready to fall asleep. Even now, after many cups of coffee, I am having trouble getting my act in gear.

It’s the natural rhythm of life, and is hereditarily built into our biology. Our species has developed these traits over thousands of years in order to survive the long. Cold winters!

But knowing that doesn’t make it any easier!

Richard:

You are so right. We had a snow storm last Sunday.  It just seems to be too early. But, actually, I always feel that the snow is too soon regardless of when it decides to show up.

Richard - sounds like you are getting ready to go into hibernation, this is the time of the year when I like to get more active. No more humid heat for another 7 months, except for our trip to south Florida to get out of the cool for awhile.

Hi Richard,

It always amazes me the different climates we live in across our country. Your getting ready to hibernate for the winter and we are getting much needed rain and our temperatures are now in the 70's during the day and 50's at night..very rejuvenating! Have a great week and your photo is gorgeous as always!

Richard:  I'm having the same trouble, though I've never been one to rise at 6am.  I'm more of an 8am gal, but lately it's really hard to get out of bed, just like you said.

And they haven't even changed the clocks back yet!

That's when I find it difficult to get up in the morning....

I turned on my wood boiler the earliest I have ever this year.  Normally I get to turn it off again for a few days to a week in oct. but not this year.  I need to cut more wood.  Oh Well, one less month I will have to pay a health club to torture me into staying in shape.

Richard - REALLY , ARE YOU KIDDING ME !!! What do you know about COLD weather in Georgia !!!!!!

I get the time change and it still being dark in the morning , but come on !!!!! I think you owe one of the Norhtern or Mid-West agents a snow-shoveling COUPON for that one.

Richard, We are right across the way in North Carolina, the mountains are cooling, and Charlotte (how dare she) dipped down into the 30's the other night! What's up with that?!!! My personal alarm clock has me wanting to sleep in till 8 or 9...my dog's alarm goes off at 6:00. And so, I stay with 6:00 until his alarm clock adjusts...of course, there are always muzzles, but then he dances!

I've been dragging too.  It's so hard to get up in the mornings, especially because it is still dark.  I'm hoping my body will adjust to the changes soon.

My clock is so messed up I go to bed at 2 am and get up at 8. That's bad enough but I'm tired all day and need a nap.

LOL...oh, I know the feeling!  But, then again, I typically go to bed at 1 or 2 a.m., so getting up earlier than 8 when we're on DST is a challenge.  I celebrate going off DST...LOL...back to the time God (and not Congress) intended!  ;-)

Winter weather is on the way. We had a good cold snap, but at the moment we are back to our warm days for a while.
