More often than not my experience working with other Realtors is very professional and normally results in a new friendship. It takes a professional partnership to walk buyers and sellers through the many challenges that arise on the way to closing a property. Representing your client does not make the other agent your enemy. It is always a joy to work with agents who are able to represent their clients best interest and also respond professionally to the wants or needs of the other agent and his clients.
Occasionally you will find yourself in a situation where an agent tends to panic their clients and makes the whole process much more difficult than need be. Here are some tips for working with these agents:
1. Meet with them personally over coffee or in their office if they feel more comfortable. Tearing down the email wall and putting a face on your contract is very important. It is hard easy to hate an email.
2. Be Professional in your dealings. One of the biggest mistakes I see is when agents put their clients on copy of every piece of email that goes back and forth between agents, lender and agent, title and agent. There is a difference between your legal obligation to keep your client informed and passing on information that can create distrust in the other agent or any other party to the agreement. Emails are difficult to gage at times and some may appear to be angry when in fact the person writings was in a hurry and did not take the time to make it smooth.
3. Talk with everyone in the process at least a couple of times a week. Once by phone and once by email. If everyone stays informed it makes them feel more at ease.
