I am so spoiled. Truly I am.  What spoils me?  Having a home office.

If I wake up at 3 am and can't sleep, I tiptoe through the house to my office and get all kinds of work done.

first cup When I awaken in the morning, put the coffee on and steal that first syrupy cup that comes through the pot, that cup and I head to the office in my jammies and see what's on the schedule, answer emails etc.  Then after an hour or so and the rest of the pot of coffee, I'm ready to dress for the day.

It's just not the same thing when you have to leave home to go to the office.

Lunch can be cooking on the stove, my pets are here, my grandchildren can drop in...

It's a business within a home within a business.  My office is in my home, my home is on our farm.  On Tuesday, we needed to wean some calves and work some cows. So Tuesday afternoon, stepped out of the office and helped with cows (cell phone in the back pocket).

It's a great life!

I also work out of my home, but there are no cows outside.  Unfortunately, all I get are gardeners with their leaf blowers and lawn mowers 5 times a day, garbage trucks, tree trimmers with their horrendous saws and machines that chop them up, carpet cleaners and miscellaneous construction.  I will take the cows any day.  Yours does sound like a great life.

What did we do before home offices?

Good luck and success.

Judi,

I work from home too, but when I wake up 3 o' clock in the morning I don't want to get up so I lay in bed and watch TV, or read, until I fall back to sleep.  Would love to get up at the crack of noon some days but can't.  There is tooo much to do: hubby, mom and cat to feed, people to see, and places to go.

Hi Judi. I work out of my office at home too though I go to one of three outside offices a few times a week. I love being able to get work done at home. I just don't have cows but I do have vegetables growing in my backyard :-) ~ Lana

I am with you, Judi.  I am working more and more at home and I am able to accomplish so much more without interruptions by working at home.

I am beginning to make that transition and I am looking forward to these freedoms.

Judi, my story is exactly the same as yours -- until the cow part, that is. I love be so productive. By the time most people are walking through a doorway to their downtown office, I've logged in several hours of work and have my day in full swing. Then, on beautiful days like today, I can head to the trails for an hour's run or a hike mid-afternoon without feeling guilty or falling hopelessly. behind.

And, ahh, that first cup of syrupy early morning coffee!

Isn't it great that nobody can see what we're wearing on the other end of the phone. What are we going to do when television phones become common place. I guess we'll start dressing from the waist up.

We love our home office as well -- we get so much more done that if we had to go someplace.

Judi, I also love a home office.  I have worked out of a home office for almost 28 years.  Our daughter turns 28 in January.  I can't imagine working any other way.  I started my own brokerage almost 5 years ago; so now I don't have to go in to an office at all.  I LOVE IT!!!

Judi,  Great post about home offices.  I really enjoyed the part about that first cup of coffee.  I've always liked working from a home office.  Another plus is it is easy for my cat to curl up near me and enjoy.  Thanks for sharing about your home office.

Judi,  I'm in my 8th year of working from home and will never go back to the corporate world!  I too love being in my jammies all day if I "want" (which is a lot!) - my husband teases me because it takes me about a month to go through a tank of gas!!

MY downfall is the distraction of a messy house while trying to work :-)

Well, we have a home office which is great.... but we have an official office for clients.... Alex is assigned there!  I like having to do everything in jammies too!
