In our neighborhood the houses are too far apart to make it easy for the kids to go from one home to the next. So, we picked a cul-de-sac that could be easily blocked off. Late afternoon everyone drives their car over, parks, and decorates the back of the vehicle in some goohlish fashion. (One family even brings a coffin and the husband jumps out every now and then!) There is always a couple of grills, hot dogs and refreshments, and of course someone is always in charge of putting up a haunted hut (you may have guessed that would be much smaller than a haunted house!) Just before dusk the kids go from one car to the next saying "Trunk or Treat" and gathering goodies from all the cars parked in the cul-de-sac. It's a great way to meet neighbors (that is if you can recognize them without their costumes on, because this isn't just a dress up for the kids!!) And it's so much safer. Great way to farm a neighborhood - go as John Deere - and let them know why you're there!!!

Ruth, our grammar school usually does a trunk or treat but this year took a vote if people woud go since it was on Satuarday and the majority ruled no.  So its trick or treating this year for Fairfield NJ children!

Never heard of this being done but it's a great idea!  Nice way for neighbors to get to know each other.

What a great idea Ruth! I'm sure the children love it! I remember growing up in Chicago and going trick or treating from house to house where there was hardly 10 feet between them ( my mom actually used to pass dinner leftovers in a bowl to share with a widowed neighbor next door from window to window that's how close the homes were ! lol

Sincerely,

Grace

Sounds like fun.  My kids are all grown up and have grown up kids of their own, but one is in a neighborhood like this where they do similar activities.  We only get a very few trick or treaters at our door these days, not like it used to be.
