Never give up.....

During the course of one of my very first training sessions we had a very nice lady who was new to the Real Estate business. After talking to her for a few minutes I began to realize that this was probably the most timid person I had ever met in my life. As most of you know I am a raging fool when I train. I love energy and I bounce all over the room and tell jokes and interact with everyone. But with this nice lady, I got nothing, zip, nada. Man, did ever feel like I let her down. After class I visited with her for awhile and dang near went to sleep just visiting with her. I told my wife that I may have finally found someone I could not make a success. Denise said to call her in a few weeks and just stay in touch and see what happens. I called her a few times and then got a little side tracked. Here we are six months later and guess who is in the front row at another training class. Yep, you guessed it; it was her. Now one thing you should know is I never get nervous, never. But, I was getting close right about now. As we got into the flow of the class questions began to come in and then it happened. She asked if she could comment on one of the questions that someone else was asking. Of course I said yes as I was looking for the exit and wondering if Subway was hiring. Then she spoke and oh my goodness, Ms. timid was gone. She began to explain things she had learned from us and other sources and that you could be successful if you only did this or that. At that point I wanted to sit down and let her teach the class. She was GOOD!

After Class I point blank ask her "what the deal was?"  She explained that for some time she had been dealing with the loss of a parent and a divorce and a host of other problems that would cripple anyone else. She said thanks for the calls and staying with her. I explained that I had gotten preoccupied and not really done my job. She smiled and said that's when I went to your websites and blogs to get the message. Folks, I dang near cried.

All I can tell you is never, ever give up on anything or anybody. You may not know their circumstances or just how much it may take to get through to the otherside.

Terry - Very good message to us all. Even God said to Samuel the prophet of the Lord, "Man judges after the outward appearance, but I (The Lord God) judge the secrets of the heart, the inward man of the heart."

I did a class called "Lunch With The Underwriter", I hated every minute of it.  Did another class about credit, hated the first 5 minutes, after that I was ok. (used to be an UW, hated that too)

The person who forced me to do these presentations left her business to me a few  years later.  I still work with many of the agents that attended my seminars.  I'm shocked that many of them want me to start it up again, and I say NOOOOO........just let me do your loans............I hate public speaking.

Every one of us learns from another, can be positive or negative.  The point is we really do not realize how much we can change other peoples lives, until they tell us.

A few agents from my first class have excelled where other more seasoned agents did not.

You never know how your words can change a career.

Being successful doesn't always come in financial terms.   You did what you were suppose to do, you just didn't see the results until much later, so kudos to you.

Reminds me of a woman that was about to get married, she had considerable assets (property) and asked what she should do with them to protect herself, I gave her my opinion and thought nothing of it.  She got married, had a child and in seven years got a divorced.  No big deal, except one night at a party at her house with about 50 people around we were all discussing property and investments and this woman stood up and told everyone that if it wasn't for my advice years before she would have lost all that she had to the gentleman she divorced.

Bottom line is that you did what you were suppose to in making her a success without really doing what you would consider anything special....

Terry - you are paying it forward ... a smile here, a comment there, a good deed tomorrow, whatever it is we just never know what the person on the receiving end has on their mind at the time.
