Honestly This Could Be the Strangest Design Idea Ever

I don't want to violate copyright by posting the picture of this strange architectural design so you will have to follow the link.

Integrated Countertop Staircase

I'm sure that someone thought this was a good idea but using your kitchen counter everyday as a stair tread? Certainly we could come up with a list of reasons why this is a bad idea. No offense to the architect and designers but this won't show up on any of my future home design plans.

I think whoever came up with that design has too much idle time!

Ohh Kaaay. Not my cup of tea. Someone needs to inform the architect that art and function don't always mix.

Not only is that a very cool design, albeit odd, it is a free standing staircase. I thought at first the one in front of the counter was solid with a mirrored side, but it's not and the one on top of the counter is supported by ceiling poles. That is quite different. But I agree, it's not something I would want either.

Does the architect have any clue about sanitation issues?

How did that design pass code inspection with no handrails on the lower section?

Hi Pat ~ Too cool! I love it. And good for you for just posting the link - so many blogs out there just keep publishing these photos - I would love to myself because they're really neat but can't get past the copyright issue.

Talk about eliminating a chunk of the prospective market for resale...it may be cool in some respects but I'm sure this will be a less attractive/desirable feature for most buyers.

Wow, interesting and yet I am still not sure I like it. It is very different.

Pat - That is simply terrible. It's interesting to look at, like an Escher piece, but not at all practical or hygenic.

John-or maybe not enough time to think it all the way through :-)

Syreeta-young children would have a field day with dancing on the counter.

Tom-I applaud the design but it doesn't seem the list bit practical.

Irene-that was one of my questions as well.

Bruce-it is in Australia so I would guess they have different building codes.

Liz-it would have made the post standout more with the actually photo but I've read enough copyright posts to know not to do it.

Nick-any agent would have warned the owners about over personalization of a home for future resale :-)

Ellen-it is different and a cool design but not in the least bit practical.

Jason-I thought Escher as well and opticcal illusion. Then I realized it was real and thought no way.

Pat, now that is just a terrible design, and very unsanitary. What was the designed drinking????
