Just when some people were  thinking that Twtter was never going to be as popular as Facebook, doesn't  Google and Microsoft make the big announcement this week that they will be  integrating Tweets into their search results.  Very interesting news.  Google says it has come to an agreement with Twitter and plans to go live in a few months and Microsoft has already launched a new beta feature on Bing.

So now in addition to searching Google for "just the facts ma'am", you will also be able to search for thoughts and feelings.  Huh?  Well isn't that how a vast number of Twits or Twitterers use the forum?

Real time updates in 140 characters or less.  Instant communication with whoever cares to listen (follow).  Yes, many current world events and major news stories are spreading like wildfire through the Twittersphere. But have you had a really good look at some of the gobbledy goop that is being tweeted daily?   This is what is going to end up on Google?

Pick a subject, any subject.  Go onto Twitter and someone will be discussing it. If they like something they will retweet it.  Every other tweet contains a link to somethng else, or so it seems.  Want spam?  Lots of it there also. Many people claim they are using Twitter very successfully for business.  It is a social networking tool that some use very effectively.

You can be sure that many of your followers would also love to sell you something.  Twitter is a free, open marketplace.  How many adult content followers have you had to block?  Hint: When you see someone who wants to follow you is already following hundreds of people but they only have 1 or 2 people following them, the red flags should go up. Block them immediately.

Hopefully Microsoft and Google will have a good screening process before incorporating tweets into their  search engines.  Isn't Google already crowded with information? If I search Google for croissants am I going to see a tweet telling me what Billy Bob had for lunch today or how about a search for diapers? A tweet about how many  Mary Sue soiled today? As of now I can go to Twitter if I want to know.  I'm really not sure I want to go to Google to find out.  How will Google and Bing determine who gets top rating and higher page ranking?

The Google and Microsoft Gods must be  very smart people so I'm sure the logistics have been ironed out.

What's next?  Are our Facebook status updates going to show up on internet search engines?  Actually it would seem that Microsoft has future plans for just that, although a release date hasn't been set yet.

Be careful what you blog.  Be careful what you tweet.  Be careful what you say on your Facebook status updates.  Your thoughts and feelings are about to become public domain.

Hi Jenny... I am rapidly approaching information overload!  I do believe that there is some information which is the internet equivalent of white noise and doesn't warrant search engine attention.

Hey Steve - have you got your feet up and having a late night snack?  I wonder when that phrase white noise came about.  I might think it was born of the new technology but I bet it's been around forever.  Write a post about it for me will you???

Jenny - valuable information. That will be interesting to see how tweets will be crawled and ranked by Google and Bing.

Jenny - I'm not sure about this trend.  It seems that common keywords will be buried in a Twitter full of garbage - but who knows.  It is interesting that they are trending to include these micro-posts.  I just hope you can screen them out like they do with images and other items.

Hi Ms. Liz,

I sometimes wonder how I got so involved with this information overload.  Some agents seem to have no clue about blogging, web 2.0, etc and are quite happy.  Do you think it is a thirst for knowledge that we have?  Or a way to help our business?  Or we are just social (or sociopath lol) people?

I loved your post about life before - you and I both found that we liked to write and we both developed a love for photography.  Those are two things I wasn't looking for when I set out on this path.

Hi S-S,

I wonder if we can opt-out if we don't want our tweets followed????

Hi Ryan, Yah I don't quite get it.  I know Google juice loves blogs and photos but I find tweets to be quite trivial.  I really think they need to clean up some of the garbage that is on Google already first before they add more.

Jenny:  White noise is just some really dirty noise that got laundered with Tide with Bleach Alternative... with just a touch of Downey thrown in to make it "touchy feely."

Touchy-feely is what I myself have been my entire life.  Mostly it has worked well... though at times it has brought some bruises.  But, I'd much rather have things as they are... touchy feely and all.

By the way... I have NEVER been either a Tweet-er or a Tweet-ee.  I think that is all much to adolescent for me.  I really do not care what panties Lindsey Lohan is or is not wearing, or what my paper-girl's uncle Louie had for breakfast.

Hi Jenny - I haven't seen how Google will incorporate Tweets in search results yet, but I'm thinking it will be similar to images, videos and blogs, where you'll have to specifically search for Tweets.

Good morning world - Just woke up and had to see what Jenny was up to late on Friday night.  Oh, talking about tweets.  I think I'm almost out of 140 characters.

Jenny, I'm amazed by the response and responses to Twitter and social media in general. It seems remarkable how some subscribers have been able to navigate and leverage business value from them.

Hi Ryan,

I also read that Google or Microsoft will probably end up buying Twitter.  I guess all of a sudden it has become more valuable.  Not sure why.  Probably due to the numbers of people that use it???  I don't know.  Does that mean that Active Rain will become attractive to Google or Microsoft???  Holy Smokes.  Are we all part owners lol?

O.K. Ryan, I just noticed that I already answered your comment above but you are such a doll I am happy to keep chatting with you lol.

Thanks for the heads up, Jenny!  I really don't want to have tweets junking up Google results... hopefully they will do it like the images or news results and let you choose that explicitly... It may be old-fashioned, and I just have no interest in someone's 140 characters on what they feel like or how great dinner was.  It is white noise (and from Wikipedia, the great social resource: "White noise is a random signal (or process) with a flat power spectral density. In other words, the signal contains equal power within a fixed bandwidth at any center frequency. White noise draws its name from white light in which the power spectral density of the light is distributed over the visible band in such a way that the eye's three color receptors (cones) are approximately equally stimulated.").

Hi Jenny - I can't imagine how that would work on Google, with so much of the nonsense that people tweet.  I guess we could search for what people are having for dinner or what time people get up or something. LOL

Hi Jenny, Are we going to be reduced to staring at either our computers or cell phones every waking moment?  And is sleep highly overrated?  Will we keep reducing the number of characters so we can communicate (?) in say, 70 characters....LOL  Like all of us on AR, we know the value of all of this to the Google Gods, but, try as I may, I just don't get it with Twitter.  I keep trying. :-)

Look out, Jenny.  If the big guys at Google read all your good questions they will want you on their payroll.

They once offered a (low-level) computer guy (son of a friend of mine) a job.  He'd ran across one of the Google Gods on business for his (quickly previous) employer.  The Guy from Google offered him a job immediately for $25,000 per month.  Told him to contact Google personnel and get signed aboard, work out his notice period with his old employer, take a month off with Google pay, and come and report in at  Google headquarters.

Of course, about then, this guy asked what he would be doing for Google.  The response:  We don't know, we'll tell you when you come to work.

The friend worked two weeks for his old boss, took his family on vacation, took his mom on a trip to some island and after a month of Goofing-Off-on-Google, reported in.

He was told they still didn't know what they wanted him to do...except take another month off and come back again.

He did.  They did finally come up with a great assignment for him.

He's been with them for about five years now.  They paid him $50,000 before he had worked hour one.

Not that this has much to do with your great post.

Hi Fred - I prefer Ellen to Oprah lol.  Do you know any "old" Realtors out west?

Ah Karen Anne - Lindsay will be disappointed you don't care about her panties.  Just don't go getting YOUR knickers in a twist lol.

Hi John - Oh, maybe that's how they will do it.  I still don't get why though.

Thanks Judi - I really love Google but it seems to be getting full of some trashy stuff lately.  I don't know why they want more.

Thanks Judy - So much for privacy issues.  We really have to think before we press send.

Hi Marc - And look here I am and it's Tuesday very late and I am trying to catch up on commets.

Hi Steve - Twitter really isn't well used here in my community yet.  I see the same followers on most peoples pages.  It seems to be mostly realtors.  I use it to post real estate updates on my website and to forward my blog posts to Facebook.  So I guess everyone has their own uses for it.

Hi Shoshana - thanks so much for the meaning of white noise.  Could you say again in English lol.  I think I like Karen Anne's version better.

Hi Susan - Yah, I don't get it.  Some people are addicted to it.  Hmmm maybe like we are addicted to Active Rain??

Hi Marcia - Well I know many AR members don't get much sleep.  How many habits do we need?? I think we need to pick our social platforms and stick to them.  It's hard to spread ourselves too thin.

Hi Jim - Hey they can make me an offer I can't refuse.  Interesting story about your friend's son.

Hi Melinda - did you mean "whiney, cheezy" kind of thing lol?? Maybe the Google Juice got a little fermented.
