Cougar. Mountain Lion. Tigre'.

Cougar.  Mountain Lion.  Tigre'.  The Indians I grew up with in Suriname, South America never saw one of these North American cats.  The one they feared was the Jaguar.  They called it "Kai Kwi."

Don't come to Tucson without visiting the Arizona - Sonora Desert Museum.  It's one of the world's ten best zoos.  This magnificent cat isn't cooped up in a 20 x 20 cage with a concrete floor.  She's the beneficiary of some of the most forward thinking zookeepers on the planet.

My Darlin' and I live six miles from the "Desert Museum."  Most of that six miles consists of Tucson Mountain Park (surrounding our little neighborhood of Tucson Estates II) and Saguaro National Park West.

Talk about blessed!  Come visit, and let us share it with you.  If you like it here, I know some great REALTORS, and we can talk about a mortgage...  I'm good at that.

Very nice.  These cats are so regal and impressive.  I'm glad they have a decent habitat and the chance to be seen.

Why that looks a lot like George L Mountain Lion!  Is he still around down there?  The Desert Museum is a must see, if you visit Tucson.

Beautiful.  Thanks for including some text along with the photo.  Posting a photo is just too easy.  Posting a photo with some text gives it so much more meaning.

So there are two zoos in Tucson?  I was checking to see if they honor the reciprocal agreement with other zoos (for annual members) and it showed only the  Reid Park Zoo there did.

You're welcome!  Thanks for stopping to visit.

Bill,

Now I'm going to have to google "Ed Lowe."  :)

Mike:

What an impressive animal. I would not get too close, though. He definitely looks formidable.

GOOD MORNING MIKE!  You described this so beautifully! And you describe your part of town beautifully as well!  Say - I think this "Kai Kwi" looks like she knows she's got it good where she's at! -- Gab

This cat looks pretty comfortable.  It seems like a great place to keep animals that thrive in that area. I'm sure the ranchers would like to see all of them behind bars.

Larry,

We have a population such that Game & Fish allows hunters to take them (or try to...) 365 days a year, 24 hours a day.

Morning, Gab!

I think she does!

Maureen,

I love zoos, and haven't visited yours.  ...yet!

Claudette,

True!

Mike.

The late Ed Lowe sold industrial absorbent clays. He was also a cat lover. One days instead of refiling the cat's sand box with sand be used his industrial absorbent clay. That is how he developed "Kitty Litter" now you know "the rest of the story!" For several years he did his own ads, a big man with a grey beard and lots of well cared for cats.

Ed was a client of mine he's the subject of two of my stories, but never mentioned by name.

That is a truly stunning creature. I'm glad that she's living in a natural habitat and not a cage which is what I saw as a child when my parents took me o the zoo. Really great photo Mike, thanks for sharing it with us.

Thanks for the suggestions Mike.  They all sound great (except I don't golf).  Enough to keep us busy for more than one trip.  I've been pretty narrow focused in my past trips to Tucson, so this gives me some options for distraction....  My Sweetie and I would love to have dinner with you and your Darlin'...I'll be in touch!
