The Buyer who showed up in her Pajamas!

The Buyer who showed up in her Tinkerbell Pajamas!  We all know the real estate market is getting a little crazy these days, but when a buyer shows up at escrow to sign closing documents in her pajamas, you know something has really gone haywire!

A certain Grants Pass Oregon real estate agent recently met her client at the Title Company to sign closing docs.  The buyer showed up in her pajamas with slippers and all (I'm not making this up!).  When the escrow officer asked the buyer if she brought a certified check for closing funds, the buyer said yes but couldn't find the check.  After searching for 30 minutes, the buyer called the bank and was informed that it would take a minimum of 3 days to complete a stop-payment on the funds.  Mind you, this was already a REALLY difficult real estate transaction and tempers were flaring from on-going problems, delays, etc.

Here's the kicker, while the buyer was on the phone with the bank, a call came into the escrow office from the local Grants Pass, Oregon Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).  Apparently, someone had found the $50,000. certified check and turned it in to the DMV.  Oh my... there is a God... and there was a closing!

The picture posted here is a depiction of the pajama buyer (I simply couldn't/wouldn't post a real picture).  Of course, no names were mentioned to protect the sleepy, but not so innocent pajama buyer :)

I guess I am the only one who wonders about this.  If this was an older client I would be seriously worried that she had some dementia or Altzheimers or something.

Melinda, how old was this person?  I see people from time to time in stores or stopping at the local Starbucks in their PJ's but they all seem to be younger and not very responsible...please help me out here...is this a new fad like wearing your pants down to your knees??

Wow Melinda, now I have heard it all!!! Too funny, except the losing the check part.  Maybe it is a new fashion trend we don't know about?  Thanks for the laugh:)

Melina & Nick - The buyer is in her 50's, an eclectic "hippy" who cares "zero" about her appearance.  She owns several rental properties, so this is not the 1st time she has attended a closing at the Title Co.  But it just might be the 1st time she showed up in her Tinkerbell pajamas and slippers!  Let's just say, no costume needed for Halloween!

OK, who is in the picture and how did you get her to agree to go on your blog.  Wow! What a salesperson you are!  Congrats on the closing!  And they wonder why real estate agents are a little goofy :)

Pajamas are my clothing of choice! I prefer to call them LFG's (Loose Fittin' Garments) but it's all the same. Somehow I haven't ever considered wearing them out of the house but I did actually see a guy at the grocery store one day in his PJ's, robe and slippers buying beer! Takes all kinds to make a world....

Nothing surprises me about how people dress when going in public anymore after seeing peopleofwalmart.com.

Ricki ~ The "secret" pajama lady...

Melina ~ You're welcome!  And, thanks for asking!

Sara ~ I like the "LFG" acronym.  I will have to use it some time :)

Mark ~ Funny link!

Sara ~ They must be a throw back from the 60's... adult size large :)

To the rest of you who have made this blog so much fun to write - A Big Thank-You!

Did her family know where she was?

This would be a little scary to deal with... I would be wondering about the lady even if she does own several rental properties.   Sometimes people deteriate and no one has done anything about it.

I'm glad that she was Ok and not losing it ... other than losing the check.

Get ready for the pajama generation!  My son just confessed to me that he attended the majority of his college classes last semester in his pj's.  You never know, maybe this will replace the suit and tie in the days to come.

Judi ~ The buyer is of sound mind (the agent involved has dealt with her before).  Apparently, she just doesn't have any fashion sense, and is a little forgetful about where she places a $50K check!

Shelton ~ I know, I know, I know!

Dianne ~ Actually, I am seeing more and more of this.  The people of WalMart is a funny site to see.  Just tonight, I went into a 31 Flavors and there was a gal wearing pajama bottoms.

I hope that buyer keeps the back flap closed on the jammies so that her brains do not fall out!

Melinda - I had a similar situation last year when a mobile notary showed up at my clients home at 8am on a Saturday morning (their appt was for 10am),  The notary told my client that she had a personal matter come up and that she would not be available at 10am, which was fine with my client but he would have appreciated 15minutes notice so he could at least get dressed instead of just showing up and waking him up.  While he wasn't wearing tinkerbell jammies, he most certainly wasn't in his most presentable jammies and he had some serious bed head and morning breath.

Pajamas?  That's hilarious.  Thankfully someone turned in that check.  It's nice to know that there are honest people around.

I'm less floored about the pajamas than the return of the check.  One things for sure - You'll always remember that closing.

Oh Melinda- I am guilty.  I've never attending a closing in my PJ's, but I have run to the corner store in the rural area I live.  And I have stopped at the drug store on the way home from the hospital in my PJs too.  And I must admit I've run up to my office in the evenings in them as well.  Guilty!
