greenieMy two girls absolutely love stickers. They have them all over their bedroom doors. Not particularly appealing to my wife and I, but the girls seem to think they look great. Oh well, we can change the doors some day.

My love of stickers is a little different than my girls. I like to see them on things like furnaces and boilers or electrical panels. They can tell me things like when that clunky old boiler was installed or last serviced.

Since I never lived in the home I am inspecting scrounging up whatever information is available is an important part of the process. Stickers or tags can provide pieces to the puzzle that is every home inspection.orange

I found that green beauty on a very old but functioning boiler. It doesn't get much better than that, an inspection sticker from the city. NICE!

That big, bright orange guy was an unusual find. Old Dan the plumber left it to tell all those who come by that he did the drain repair. I like it!

The last one is not particularly special, a run of the mill service record sticker on a boiler. I like to see them to know; 1 if the unit has been regularly maintained and 2 what repairs may have been performed.

Yep, I do love stickers, just not on my doors.

 just a sticker

Hi James,

It is very helpful for future reference for a person who has just made a repair to leave a sticker..it is of great benefit down the road to determine the next fix!

James, yes, stickers are good for we realtors with clients who want alittle information about HVAC and other systems upon first inspection.  These stickers give us a glimpse about whether there has been maintainence or repairs.

James,

I agree. Only one problem here. At least one L and I inspector does not know that at a subpanel the ground and neutral are not co-mingled. Time after time I see their sticker on panels with that defect. Another local inspector finds the same thing. These seem to be panels that have not been tampered with, just an electric inspector who is not paying attention.

Mr James,

I think that many children would like Nutsy and Wheatloaf stickers. Please send donations and you will be first to get some when they are printed. PS...how do you get the sticky stuff on that one side.

I love finding the old inspection cards from the 20's and 30's---back when oversight was just beginning.

James - This is an interesting post.  I bet it makes for some cool detective work when you do find a sticker.

SIDEBAR: Dear Steven/Nutsy/Wheatlof,

Boiled foot-of-squirrel makes good sticky stuff. We call it glue.

Sincerely, Ms. Kate www.glue-r-us.edu

Back to Mr. James post, when L&I tags went missing on manufactured homes, I always wondered where they went. eBay? Landfills? Who cared enough to remove them? Probably some dumb squirrel...

I ALWAYS make the point of what a welcome sight (and good sign) a regular service history sticker is.

Kate,

You just hush your mouth. You are going to get banned by Mr James who is one of Nutsy's big supporters.

Dorie, Exactly. No service stickers leaves everyone guessing.

Barbara, They do the same for inspectors.

Steve, What I find more disturbing is there are electricians in that area who do not know basic electrical wiring.

Nutsy, Lick the back.

Charlie, From the 50s is the oldest I have found.

Jason, It's a clue in the puzzle.

Kate, I would bet a squirrel was responsible for those missing tags.

Jay, Because of liability many companies around here deliberatley do not leave a tag or sticker on the system. How sad is that?

Thanks Mr James. You are correct, when I licked the back they became sticky. That is absolutley amazing to me. Prior to your tip, the hole idea of being able to stick the stickers went over my head.

Nutsy, here's a Halloween game for you. Position a holiday sticker on top of your mouth. For even more fun, place a second one across nose. (you know over those two little openings) Have fun, Ms. Kate
