The Review of Practices and Procedures ~ Toronto Community Housing Corporation

By Brian Madigan LL.B.

The Toronto Community Housing Corporation announced that it would have a review of its practices and procedures in the wake of the death of Al Gosling.

You will recall that Al Gosling was the elderly gentlemen evicted from his apartment, who lived then in the stairway of the apartment building until he became sick. He was taken to a homeless shelter and then to hospital where he died.

The internal review is a good thing. However, the Coroner is investigating the entire incident.

So, while the internal review is helpful, it should not be used to placate the Coroner.

I would however applaud the TCHC on its selection of a Chairman of the Review Committee. It appointed The Honourable Mr. Justice Patrick Lesage. formerly Chief Justice of the Province of Ontario, who is best known for conducting the trial in the Paul Bernardo case.
