This Irish folk tale, is in the newly pubished August House Book of Scary Stories. There are three main characters in the story, theres Mean John, Saint Peter, and the Devil appear in places far afield. Heaven and Hades, a blacksmith's forge and a lonely nocturnal marsh.

Pumpkin carving is something I have never been able to master. Ceil can do a pretty good job. She use to make pumpkin bread from the pumpkin but hasn't done that or carved a pumpkin in quite a few years now that the kids are grown and gone.

I've always have really enjoyed pumpkin carven. Down in Keene New Hampshire, they have a really big Jack O' Lantern festival. They are lined up for miles and miles.

There sure are always alot of vert detailed Jack O' Lanterns at the festival. I went to one back home, one time, and one of the folks carved John Wayne's face on a Jack O' Lantern. That sure was a mighty fine one to see.
