Is ‘Hyper-intention’ Affecting Your Business and Personal Life?

By
Industry Observer

The concept of ‘hyper-intention’ has been drawn to my attention a number of times this past week. First it was via a quote I had read on AR that did not mention the word ‘hyper-intention itself, but the meaning behind the quote was the same as that of the meaning of ‘hyper-intention.

Then memos began appearing in my inbox at my office from my mentor/life guru. When I picked up one of his latest packets of reading material yesterday, I noticed that one of the enclosed titles did not quite ‘fit’.
It struck me as a little strange at the time, however, I had put it out of my mind until this morning when the feeling that he was trying to tell me something, arose again.

I decided I would do best to sit up and pay attention. Someone or something was trying to give me a message.

I remember Paulo Coelho stating in an interview that one of the ‘Four Pillars of Alchemy’ is “ the omens, the signs; you have to surrender yourself sometimes to the universe and learn your lessons during the pilgrimage.”.

Part of learning your lessons is staying open to and paying attention to these signs as they appear in your life. Not many people do. In fact, very few people are even aware that certain things or people that appear in their lives are offering small gifts in the forms of messages or signs that will help guide them along the easiest and most heartfelt path they are trying to take.

Remembering this fact, I am again drawn to that one aberrant article in the pile of reading material my mentor had left for me. When something jumps out at you, you would be wise not to ignore it.

Now , as I am typing this, I go to my reading corner, where a pile of books and papers sit for my next visit, and I sift through the articles to find the one that is again in my mind . I peruse it again.
I find it on the internet. It is then that I notice that it is there. The sign I am looking for . The sign I am meant to see. I am then reminded of the fact that personal equilibrium is about riding above the waves of all that is occurring around oneself.

When I am immersed in the soulpiece of who I am, I have a greater connection to the whole soul and am able to transcend the daily ups and downs of my life. I coast, I float, I wear, gently, strong skins that, although they are strong, are translucent like the wings of a dragonfly.

It is only now I come to understand why using ‘hyper-intention’ in any aspect of one's life, does not work. Instead it brings about the opposite of the desired effect.

Hyper-intention involves being so focused on a desired result that you lose sight of yourself and the signs that are offered to you along the way. A thought comes to mind. It is like walking through a thick forest trying to follow a path by focusing intently on a far off point in the distance where you have determined the path leads to.

As you intently focus on this point, you walk right past a small side path where a tiny group of Lady Slippers have been placed to catch your eye. You miss the sign that would have led you onto the right path, the path that would have led you to where it is you wanted to go.

Now I think back to the guide that visited me with a message 3 months ago. The guide said this to me, in the wee hours of the morning, ‘Shi Shui says your greatest strength is your greatest weakness’.
Over the past 3 months more and more of the meaning behind what Shi Shui said is being revealed to me. Like pieces of a puzzle, it all falls into place.

I think back to something my friend Manuel Giorgini said to me one day when we were discussing hardships and tragedies in life, “ If the universe decides to pull the rug out from under me, I will have no choice but to float”.

I think Manuel, unbeknownst to himself at the time, knew quite a bit about what Shi Shui has been trying to tell me.

A message that is meant for us will try to reach us through many different people and many different media, until one day, we finally stop and pay attention.

As I write this, these words of Paulo Coelho's come to mind :

"A warrior of light knows that certain moments repeat themselves.

He often finds himself faced by the same problems and situations, and seeing these difficult situations return, he grows depressed, thinking that he is incapable of making any progress in life.

‘I've been through all this before,’ he says to his heart. ‘Yes, you have been through all this before,’ replies his heart. ‘But you have never been beyond it.’

Then the warrior realises that these repeated experiences have but one aim: to teach him what he does not want to learn."

I pick up my satchel, backtrack a bit to the path I missed and carry on with my journey.

Jo, what a beautiful post.  I didn't read your second yet but I always believe very strongly in signs and had done a blog about them a long time ago (though not nearly as eloquently as yours).  I believe it is important to watch for them and try to interpret them.

Surrendering yourself is, to me, like to "Go with the Flow" and is important to keep your balance =  equilibrium.  The reason the Bamboo plant is used so much in Feng Shui is that it is strong and resilient but able to bend, move and adjust to conditions.  I hope I am interpreting your lovely post the right way, it's the way it came across to me.  Thank you so much for sharing that!

Thank you Carole .  I believe strongly in signs too. I would love to read the blog you wrote about them. How do I find it? Feng shui is very strongly about signs, isn't it ? Both visible and invisible ones.

I didn't realize that about the Bamboo plant. My son gave me one two Christmas' ago and it is now quite huge. It originally had three stocks and one died. Now there are two beautiful ones. Should I be worried about that ? Perhaps I need to go out and buy another stock to replace the one that died ?

Yes, you interpreted it exactly the right way. Of course I always  know that you know exactly what I am saying, anyhow.

Please , when you have a minute, hunt down your 'signs' blog. Oh, maybe if i go to your blog and look in the tags I will find it?

hope your weekend is going along smoothly and joyfully.

Hi Jo!  Boy, I had to go back many posts....I was thinking in particular that day about a client and the coins I found outside, that I had taken them as a sign of abundance.  Here it is:  Are you missing the SIGNS? You're likely getting them everyday!

I had the same thing happen with MY Bamboo plant!  I had three, one died and the other two are fine.  I wouldn't get another, it still looks lovely and because of it's resilence and it's ability to be flexible, is significant in Feng Shui.  (Not to mention Eco-Friendly :)   I loved your post, it always makes me stop and reflect....thank you for your beautiful writing!

I wish you a wonderful evening!

Carole, Thank you for finding your post about 'signs'. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.

That is quite strange that your Bamboo had one stalk die as well. I will have to do some research to see what two stalks means. Thanks for advising me not to buy a third one. I have been hesitant to because the one that died remains as a strong centre pillar post for the tallest living one, which is one of those curly cue ones, wound around and around the dead one. I believe this has significance.

Thank you for your kind words and I wish the same kind of evening for you !

Sharae, I often forget to be aware that there are so many signs that present themselves in our lives. I have only begun to be more aware of them since reading Paulo Coelho's books. Now I actively watch for them.  Although, subconsciously , I have always been aware that signs are presented to us regularly. I have even written about it in the past. Perhaps the shift comes when we finally begin to be consciously aware of the signs ?

Thanks Tom.

I am not generally a 'hyper-intender' so it usually does not affect me. However, I have found myself now and then falling into the hyper-intention trap and being thrown off-balance due to it. Then I pull myself back out of that hyper-intention way of thinking and things start to become evenly keeled again.

Thanks for dropping by, Aart. You have a very interesting blog btw. Thank you for putting your time and attention to this. It is a very worthy and honourable thing to do.

I read the first chapter of The Witch of Portobello a while back through Paulo's blog.  I think it is going to be a very enlightening book.

I identify with Athena.  These words of Paulo Coelho's vibrate in my soul :

"No one lights a lamp in order to hide it behind the door: the purpose of light is to create more light, to open people’s eyes, to reveal the marvels around.

No one sacrifices the most important thing she possesses: love.

No one places her dreams in the hands of those who might destroy them.

No one, that is, but Athena."

I think,  perhaps,  many  women would be able to identify with Athena.

From his books we learn how to be stronger, how to walk the path, how to watch for signs and heed them when they are presented to us. This is important. Very. Especially when you don't always know which way to proceed.

Be well.

Carole Provenzale posted on my blog and said I would love your blog. I have to agree with her. I have always been aware of "waking dreams" during my day that are clues. I also work many things out in my dream-time. It's like I work all night too! I should be tired!

Lizette, Carole is an amazing person, is she not ? Extremely intuitive and talented.

Thanks for your kind words.

I believe the subconscious mind is at work at night solving our problems. There is an excellent book out on this subject called 'The Power of the Subconscious Mind' by Joseph Murphy.  I know what you mean about 'should be tired', when you think of how we awake with answers to our problems/questions. It reminds me of that old fairy tale 'The Shoemaker and the Elves' !!

Have a wonderful day,
