Calvin Woodward's article in USA Today FACT CHECK: Health insurer profits not so fat published 10/25/2009 caught me napping. Even knowing that there is a lot of lies about the whole Health Care debacle, I did not expect relatively simple and verifiable fact be ... not even distorted but, just flat lie.
"In the health care debate, Democrats and their allies have gone after insurance companies as rapacious profiteers making "immoral" and "obscene" returns while "the bodies pile up."
And do you remember these:
_"I'm very pleased that (Democratic leaders) will be talking, too, about the immoral profits being made by the insurance industry and how those profits have increased in the Bush years." House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., who also welcomed the attention being drawn to insurers' "obscene profits."
_"Keeping the status quo may be what the insurance industry wants their premiums have more than doubled in the last decade and their profits have skyrocketed." Maryland Rep. Chris Van Hollen, member of the Democratic leadership.
_"Health insurance companies are willing to let the bodies pile up as long as their profits are safe." A MoveOn.org ad.
Read it. I think the danger here is that by this rhetoric by the President and his entourage, they successfully discredited what the insurance industry can say on the subject.
Oh, sure, who would listen to them as they are for the money. Yeah, right... The government is also for the money, and the difference is that insurance has to make money to stay in business, and the government does not have such obligation.
They have us for that, they have our children to foot the today's bills and they have our grandchildren to pay tomorrow bills, meanwhile they will borrow again and then what... loan modification with China?
Jon - We can keep piling on the government programs until, at some point, there will be no one left to pay the bill.
