A recent letter to the Editor in a local paper stated that several years ago, when the writer moved into the area, Real Estate taxes were reasonable. The Sales Tax was 5% and today it is 7% soon to go to 8%. Insurance rates, which were already high, went much higher, and some folk were unable to find coverage after their carriers dropped them like a hot potato due to the areas location within the Hurricane impact zone.
Health care and prescription drug prices are in the hands of the highwaymen. Don't even get started on the price of gasoline and all petroleum related products.
Our Horry county council voted to raise Real estate taxes along with the personal property tax because more funding is needed for our schools. Apparently the visionary plan of funding our educational system with a state lottery is not producing the expected results.
Our county council just voted to toss out a couple of casino boats because they did not meet their "moral standards". These casino boats impacted only those who willingly went on board, and went on a 3 mile cruise outside the legal jurisdiction of the council, to gamble. The council tossed out a 1.5 million + income by their actions. In the meantime "adult Oriented" establishments continue to proliferate in our "Family Friendly" atmosphere. But.... I digress......
The Real Estate Agent area of the Yellow pages is chock full of Real Estate Agents. There would not exist the need for all of those Real estate Agents if the demand wasn't there. What created that demand? Development.
Along with the development, came rising costs for everything. Some will try to pump hot air into your system by telling you that development brings in more tax revenue thereby reducing your tax bills.... Then why does the tax bill increase every year?
There is a partial solution to the tax woes.... Real estate impact fees.
